Nero D. Ace
Yep, you read the title and believe me, I was just as bewildered upon reading the article.http://wii.ign.com/articles/121/1215510p1.htmlBut that's what Nintendo has decreed and no amount of fanoy debates will change this fact. So, what do you think about the Zelda story timeline now? It was already quite confusing to begin with cuz of the branching at Ocarina of Time but now Nintendo added a THIRD possibility - where you end up failing the game. Shade_13
You do realize that people in whose brains Legend of Zelda isnt the first thing understand a completely different thing when you talk about dead links.
lemmingllama
This actually makes me kinda mad. After all, the games dont let you really die or fail, you can give up on the game but you cant actually let ganon win. I dont know why Nintendo would do this except for trying a new perspective on Zelda games. Still, killing the hero is outside of what Nintendo should be doing, there will be a lot of rage from fanboys and fangirls
Kasoivc
"Oh, but sorry, I forgot to include the third possibility. Link actually dies at the hands of Demise, Game Over, and since Skyward Sword is the first in the chronology then no other Legend of Zelda games ever happen afterward." I think reading that article made me cry. No joke. I'm extremely flabbergasted at the thought that Nintendo would even do such a thing. Now my childhood youth was wasted on saving a non-existent Hyrule, that it was really an illusion?

Now my childhood youth was wasted on saving a non-existent Hyrule, that it was really an illusion?Well take a look at Pokemon and it's fans (I'm not one of them). They spent like 13+ years following the story only to finally be told 'hey Ash has been dreaming all this time and none of this ever took place'. In my eyes that must have been a nitemare rather than a dream after all every time he got close to his goal of 'gotta catch 'em all' they'd introduce another 300 Pokemon. Seems old time franchises are just trolling their fanbases. At least Zelda still somewhat feels the same. Square Enix royally fucked over fans of Final Fantasy when they went all out movie with some small hints of actual gameplay here or there in FF13 and it seems future installments will likely be more of the action hybrid than true RPG's. seirachan
I don't see why Link being "dead" Is really such a big deal. This post seems like nothing but "What if's" Really. I love The Legend of Zelda and this really doesn't change my views on a single thing. If they release more games still-which I think they are going to I'm happy. Hdz777
I was in shock at first but I came to terms with it because it really doesn't matter. Nintendo is still going to be releasing Legend of Zelda games. Truth be told, thinking about how Skyward Sword fit into the timeline as I was playing it robbed me of enjoying it at face value. Spitfire
Huh, that is interesting and weird but opens up interesting creative possibilities.

I can see how it could make old-time fans sad that their beloved series is simply going to pretend the last 15+ years of games were about stories that never happened in the official timeline and all future games will be as if those don't exist. blank sentiment
A split timeline doesn't necessarily mean that only ONE had to have happened. Does only one branch of a tree really exist just because the trunk splits into branches?

The Legend of Zelda has always been just some kid named Link saving princess Zelda, Killing Gannon. I never saw any thing that seemed like those games had any linked storyline to another. Unless they are gonna stop saying Link is a descendant. But so long as they don't take out Link, Zelda or Gannon. It's still a Legend of Zelda game.Nintendo as a company though shouldn't have announced this knowing a lot of crazy fans are gonna get pissed. This may get some obsessed people to stop buying the new games, thus lose profit.
