One tried to deal with some interesting philosophical issues, and seemed to treat the mechs as the modern equivalent of a knight's horse and armor. The other contains, hands down, the funniest highschool comedy I've ever seen, and treats the mechs as just another asset in a warzone - mass-produced (mostly) and disposable.
