DB Kai : A WTF moment.

So, i had downloaded the english dubs of DBZ Kai a while back and Koby's latest announcement - OVER 9000!!! led me to watch it finally and see what changes had actually been made to it.

So, i was watching the episode in which that iconic line is said and when it happened, what i heard was this -

"IT'S OVER 8000!"

Am i having hearing problems or did they seriously just change that number? Not that it makes any difference, of course since over 8000 is the same as over 9000 but still ...

Honestly though at the time of DBZ originally FUNimation was short on staff and did the best they could with what they had which was often totally different that what was originally said. While DB Kai tries to remain as true as possible to the original script. That being said I do kind of miss the old actors and some of the old sayings. Especially Goku's first Super Saiyan transformation..

"Ally to good... Nightmare to you..."

instead now it's just:

"I'm Son-Goku!!"

Sure it stays true to the original but when has Goku ever referred to himself as Son-Goku in the English version? Never. First off from what I understand Son-Goku loosely means Giant Ape Man or some crap like that which was how he got his name to begin with, but yeah. They normally leave the Son- part out in the dub so it just seemed awkward they left it there and the whole line just seemed lame in comparison to his old dub speech.

The old English dub had whacky and sometimes childish dialog that didnt go with what they were intended to say.which is why there are soo many videos of DBZ quotes on youtube..not because their awsome(maybe a lil awsome) but because they are goofy. like piccolo saying "more like burnt toast" Vegeta yelling "over 9000!" in a high pitch voice and Vegeta yelling "Darn you!" when hes suppose to scream "Damn you to hell!!" and goku not swearing in one single episode unlike the japanese version. The Mexican(latino) version had a better translation than the English one. When planet Namek explode and goku is caught in the middle he yells "Damn it all to hell!" and something close that that in the Latino version but in english he just yells "NOOOOO!" Which is where Kai fixed most of them but too little too late. The old DBZ dub has alot of unnecessary LOL moments that ruin the experience. The dub is the only reason why Kai is better than Z

The 'It's Over 9000!!!!' phase came first for me so changing it back to 8000 just seems weird, even if it's a mistranslation. I haven't even started the series and already I'm being put of more. They already halted it before they started the Buu Saga and now they're changing the crazy phases, I mean come on 'Ally to good...Nightmare to You...' sounds so much more of a heroes saying than 'I'm Son-Goku' plus the Son sounds weird if used in an English sentence.
