Now on net neutrality

From EFF

"The FCC’s proposed rules aren't what we need to ensure the future of our Internet, but these proposed rules are what will likely pass unless the public speaks up and demands effective protections. This is one of our best opportunities to be heard. EFF will be submitting comments, and you can too." Visit the link below

I can't seem to find the original article that I wanted to link to but the one below is quite similar but i think that it's close enough for what I want to say. anyway a while ago I was reading an article that explored the impact that patenting the internet would have had on its development and how we would have not had the open web that we have today, instead we would have had internet "like" networks made by many different companies and as a result most of the services and innovations that help shape the way we live would have never have been developed. I think that it’s an interesting line of thought that if the internet wasn’t open how would things be different and by extension how will effectively removing that open access change how the internet continues to grow.

While I believe that removing neutrality from the internet is a very bad Idea. Being an optimist (I use the term loosely) I can see an upside to this, but it’s not what politicians and companies would advertise. If the internet were commercialised it would it would give drive to independent developers and enthusiasts to develop workarounds and alternative communication techniques to bypass and oppose the new restrictions placed upon them. This would create a very interesting scenario indeed, that for the first time in history the NSA could end up fighting for the freedom of the internet because the last thing they want is people developing new standards and workarounds that are then widely adopted as it would mess up pretty much everything they do.

Trade Advisory Committees. These committees currently include hundreds of legal advisors for corporations, who can log in from their own computers to view and comment on the official drafts of trade agreements. Meanwhile, Congress members are only permitted to view the text in a specific room without the ability to take notes or be accompanied by legislative aides. Public representatives are afforded even less access to negotiations than corporate representatives.

Damn!
