skate.101
Firstly I am a guy and have recently run out of good shounen/seinen to watch so was thinking should i start with shoujo/josei my previous experience with shoujo was when i did not know of these genre and watched http://myanimelist.net/anime/3457/Vampire_Knight which was a very suffocating horrible experience so was wondering are there better shoujo anime out there which might be unisex if so how do you guys find these specific ones out of all those overdose of awkwardness and soft-porn ... lemmingllama
I can almost guarentee that you haven't watched all the good shounen or seinen. But still, moving on from that. I would say to watch the slice of life ones with comedy, it sounds like you will dislike pure shoujo. Still, there are many good titles from the genre, such as Ouran High School Host Club for shoujo or Eden of the East for josei. Basically just look at the ratings that a series is getting and reviews of it. Vampire Knight isn't very well received for most reviews, so it isn't likely to be great. Also josei has a lot less awkwardness, typically the characters are more mature so it isn't just the girl falling all over the guy since he is cool or whatever. Nintendon't
I took a look at your list. Here's some good shonen/seinen stuff you missed. Welcome to the NHK (Recommend this 9999999x)Steins;Gate (C'mon son, how can you call yourself an anime fan and not watch this?!)Neon Genesis Evangelion (Older show but a big classic...Congratulations!)Fate/Zero (Good action packed show and recently got a good dub too)When they Cry Higurashi (A feel good anime for the whole family )
† poetictragedy
I completely second Ouran High School Host Club. I'm not too familiar with labels, but I think some of my other favorites that fit in the shoujo category are Free! Iwatobi Swim Club and Uta no Prince-sama. Though, being a guy, you may not like them as much as I do, haha. EDIT: I reread your post and saw that you were looking for more 'unisex' shoujo, so Free! and UtaPri probably wouldn't be good places to start. They're basically just reverse harem and bishounen. But hey, I like them, haha.
Tsukumo Yuma
If you are looking for a cute fun shoujouOuran High Host Club, Pita Ten, Kami Chama Karin, Mamotte Lollipop, Cardcaptor Sakura, DN Angel, Rizlemine. This isn't shoujou, but it is romance, Arakawa Under the Bridge. skate.101
no no you guys misunderstand i am not asking for particular shoujo anime but am asking for veterans in this particular genre if it is good enough for a guy to go for it who does not like stuff like twilight and horny reverse haremy bishonen thingy ... I believe I covered that in my post, but to reiterate in case you didn't see it. Guys can like it, but make sure you pick series that aren't just girls freaking out over guys. Basically go for the romantic comedies and you will be fine if you want shoujo, and basically all josei should be ok if you check your series ahead of time. Both have lots of stuff that are worthwhile.

† LimitLess
My bad, NGE was shonen, now it's seinen. Alright so to answer your question, don't watch shojo/josei. It for girls, all their anime/manga are girly and about romance. Not that some shonen/seinen don't sometimes fall under the same category. I would never watch shoujo/josei anime..... Wait did you just say Vampire Knight is shoujoShit, shit, shit Edited May 6, 2014 by Kei Shiro

PinoyRecca
I'm a shounen guy myself, and honestly, the only shoujo anime I can really recommend is Fruits Basket. Mainly cause, the protagonist, Tohru is just plain awesome. That and the english dub is really well done (by Funimation). I don't really know why everyone recommends Ouran High School Host Club. If your a shounen guy like me, your probably not gonna like it. It's got all your shoujo troupes, female protagonist, pretty boys with pretty, glittering eyes, reverse harem... Either way, you can't have possibly run out of good shounen/seinen shows to watch...there are SO MANY.
