What should I do boys and girls?

Greetings everyone

I have a bit of a dilemma as to what I should do regarding PSP's, here is the dilemma:

I can't decide whether to wait out and buy the PSP Vita, or just get a cheap 1000,2000 or 3000 that some stores have floating around (I have seen 1000's and 2000's in store brand new for anywhere between $70-$130 at kmart and the like)

I use to have a 2000 but traded it in when I got my PS3 (Im kicking myself for trading it in)

All I really want it for is to play games (and yes I will jailbreak my psp and download my games through torrents and the like) which I used to do before trading in my 2000.

Can you guys please help me in deciding what I should do? Im leaning towards the 1000,2000,3000 idea but im pretty certain that someone will find a way to jailbreak the Vita, but will the jailbroken Vita be able to play games meant for the 1000,2000 and 3000?

Personally, I would say just to get the cheaper 2000, but really whatever works. The Vita is backwards compatible, but only for certain things, plus it might take awhile for jailbreaks that actually work to get out and be usable

The device will also be backwards compatible with PlayStation Portable downloadable titles, PlayStation minis, PlayStation Suite games, PSOne Classics, videos, and comics from the PlayStation Store.

if you have the money for it I say go with the PS Vita, the graphics are amazing; its like a mini ps3.

plus if you do have the money for a few games then why not, it will be worth the wait when/if they find a way to jailbreak it/hack it, I'm guessing.

Sony is a bit stubborn with the pricing of the PSP's but if you're not in any hurry then you could make your decision around this Christmas where there might be a possibility of them dropping prices for the vita if sells don't go well, though I doubt it.

I think it'd be best to ask yourself if you're interested enough in the games for the Vita.

If you're only going to be playing PSP games, why pay the extra? Especially since the Vita is still brand new and you already know how to get a PSP to work the way you want it to.

But if you're psyched for some of the Vita games, especially if they're not out yet, I'd take a bit of a wait-and-see approach. See if it can do the things you want it to and check reviews on the games. I'm not sure how the Vita is doing in Japan, but the 3DS eventually got a substantial price drop after being out for a while...

Still, I can't really comment on the jailbreaking; since I have no idea how to do it on either system or if it's even possible for the Vita...

it is really easy to jailbreak the PSP's, and it was quite creative how they managed to find the exploit (well interesting if your into that sort of stuff)

I reccomend it for a read if you are ever bored / interested and what to know more

Thanks everyone for their posts, I have decided to get a new 2000/3000 since they are anywhere between $80-$110 (checked today at my local stores)

To be honest, i wouldn't buy the old PSP's. You see, my PSP recently broke without any damage done to it whatsoever. the screen has pixel lines, the buttons don't work, etc.. This all happened for no reason. I suggest buying the Vita since the graphics are better, there are more options for it, and for the few extra dollars, is worth the wait and the gaming console itself.

Perhaps you didn't read why I wanted the older style PSP, the reasons you have listed to get the vita have no value to why I want a PSP

get a 1000. 1000 are the only ones that can be fully hacked. only early model 2000s can be hacked. meaning the they can have CFW. late model 2000 can not be hacked at all or only a bit. and 3000s can only be half hacked. meaning that you cant play ISOs or CSOs but you can play homebrew. tho word says that all are hackable now but its not 100% meaning that if the psp turns off you have to reload the CFW again.

also make sure when your buying that the FW on it is low. the newer the FW the harder to hack it.

btw i own a 1000 running 6.xx CFW ^^

It would also require a specially made card or you couldn't get anything on the VITA. I doubt there will be much trouble with piracy or anything on the VITA for a good portion of its time. If you want to play PSP games, then just do the PSP option.

Mine is running one of the most recent firmware also, but it is a PSP-2000 2g model. I use the LCFW from NEURON. I believe it is for firmware 6.39. I only used it for outputting PSP games to my CRT TV and to play my own PSX games that I ripped to the computer and converted to a PSP EBOOT with ImpalerPSX. Also, the CFW from NEURON runs on any model of PSP whether it is the 1000, 2000, or 3000. They uses exploits to disable to flash reset on the newer PSPs when the system is reset, if you use the full CFW version, but it only works with PSP Firmware 6.XX.

If i was in your situation and had tons of money i'd buy a ps vita, unfortunately i have no money lol.

If you had tons of money, you would be better off buying both, actually. There is no guarantee that the Vita will ever be hacked and any PSP can be hacked.
