Funimation announced on Thursday that it has suspended production on all future Blu-ray releases of the Dragon Ball Z television anime series, including the Level 2.1 disc that was originally scheduled to be released on March 27.

Funimation said that it had produced the Blu-ray editions of the series due to fan demand; however, the company explained that "due to technical challenges of restoring from the original film frame by frame, we are unable to continue these releases by way of this process." The company added it will re-evaluate its process of creating these Blu-rays and will research more efficient methods of restoration.

Funimation announced last July that it would release the series for the first time on Blu-ray. Funimation and the Dallas-based company ANDTRANSFER remastered the series from the original Japanese 16mm film reels at 1080p, keeping the original 4:3 aspect ratio. The first set, Dragon Ball Z Level 1.1, was released with the first 17 episodes on November 8.

I think its understandable thats hard stuff. Heck try this, pull a bs flv vid off of you tube and see how much work is needed to up the quality from bs to fair. The way I see it is there honestly trying. They could just do it any way with sub par vid techniques but than you would end up with sub par HD or something over priced. Its one of those "your patience will be reworded" things.

Well tbh I feel like they did good work on the first 2 blu ray sets of this so why the hell did they stop? I can understand its hard but tbh I feel they dont want to put all the time and effort in. I feel dissapointed by this big time, I think it would of been great for the fans to get all of them on blu ray hope they sort this out.

It would be nice if they do continue this again but im not very interested in the blu ray project, ive already bought the remastered sets I really don't feel like spending another small fortune on blu ray copies. So this is no big loss to me.

I wouldn't buy these anyway. I mean...how many times have they re-released DBZ? Honestly I feel the Dragon Boxes and DBZ Kai should be it. But to make it even worse the BR sets had even less episodes than Season 7 of the Brick sets which has the least amount of episodes (25) out of those sets. I would have taken forever for them to release it again. And I honestly wouldn't want to spend another +2 years collecting the series....again. I love the DB series....but they need to let it go. the Dragon Boxes were excellent. Only missing teh Dub score...but thats the only thing wrong.
