Reptoholic
I am looking at getting a new Hard Drive. Due to many peoples advice I am leaning toward WD. Now The only question I have is what model to get. Now I have a Mac and Run Lion off of it. I have heard a few of them will not work with it. I am doing my research but thought I would ask and see what y'all have to say. Also people have said not to get more than a 2 tb because they tend to crash, whats up with that? I have been waiting till after Christmas to try and find a good deal, and am on the lookout, if you by chance run across something or know of somewhere that has good prices I would appreciate it if you let me know. Cello
So long as you format the hard drive as a Fat32 drive it should be recognizable on Mac (and Windows). I've never heard of +2TB hard drives crashing before so I wouldn't really know what's going on there.I'm actually more fond of SeaGate to be honest, but have you searched through the best selling external hard drives on NewEgg?http://www.newegg.com/Store/SubCategory.aspx?SubCategory=414&name=External-Hard-Drives&Order=RATINGUsually you can get a good understanding of which HDs are the best by ratings/reviews. The number 1 external hard drive on NewEgg is actually the one i'm using to house all my anime, though I purchased it refurbished from BestBuy for about half that price. It's been used between My Windows PCs, MacBook, a Wii and numerous other things.
Reptoholic
Sorry about that I will give a little more info. Mac Book Pro (laptop) Mac OS X Version 10.7.2 ( the Lion ). Was Wanting to get a 3 tb hd but was told not to go over 2tb. Wanting it to store anime at home, so it doesn't have to be mobile.
Jªvª
Sorry about that, didn't read that last part of the sentenceBut here are some results for a 1TB and 2TB My Book DriveResults for 1TBResults for 2TB
lemmingllama
Drives over 2TB that are mobile tend to crash and erase data on a semi regular basis. Its fine if they are the type that plug into walls, but the mobile ones tend to act as though its too much in one package. So I wouldnt reccomend getting one that is over 2TB. Besides, you can hold probably up to 8000 anime episodes or so with 2TB so you dont really need more than that unless you really have an awesome colection

I have a 1 tb that I back my computer up but I can only use 500 on anime because my computer takes up the rest. I just don't want to have to buy another anytime soon. I was looking at those links Jªvª thanks for posting. I was looking at those. If I don't find a good deal soon I think I'm just going to get one. Koby
@ Cello, Seagates are absolute garbage. They all either fail or make horrible clicking noises shortly after buying. Never had a single one work correctly.@ Rep, looking for external or internal? As you may have heard in another thread.. it's a terrible time to buy drives as they're almost all near double the normal price due to floods and shit in the main country they're mostly produced in. Jªvª
@Koby, He is goin for external. Think he dosn't mind if its a mobile/desktop HD being utilized.
Koby
Well as far as externals.. I have never found anything that beats this one:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136471Western Digital Elements 2TBI have two of them, and never had any issues with them.I also have a 1 TB WD My Book, and a 1.5 TB Seagate. The only one I've had issues with is the lone Seagate. The WD Element drives are also the fastest of my drives. As I said though, prices have skyrocketed. I bought both of mine a year apart for $79 each, however now NewEgg is asking $144.
Alegend1994
Yep I recently got a WD Element and it's perfect. The best part is that it sits horizontally, instead of vertically like with the My Books, which means that it won't tip over and potentially damage the device.I heard that HDD price's had sky rocketed since the flooding incident but I had no idea what the price's were originally so it hasn't felt like it has effected me. I bought mine for £90 ($140).

I was looking for a deal because I remembered what you had told me a while ago about how much you had payed. I am just hoping that I can find a good deal soon. I can last out a while though. † L4ugh
If you have the money for it, you could also buy a NAS. Then you could just plug it into your network and have the ability to stream your files to any computer on your network. You could also burn some less important files to DVD-R until the prices of HDDs come back down.

crimsonsoul
well i don't know too much either, but most people say if the hard drive is smaller in size, it's more durable, don't know if it's true or not ...
