In all honestly, in Red and Blue you're best option was Squirtle because you can't get any other water Pokemon at this point in the game. Level him a bit to learn a water-based attack. While in the forest hunt for a Pikachu and level him up enough to learn a thunder-based attack. Also catch a Rattata since he is one of the stronger beginning Pokemon you can find. You'll easily beat Brock with Squirtle. While in the cave on your way to Misty catch an Onyx or Geodude. Pikachu will easily own Misty, and against the third gym leader your Oynx or Geodude will own. From there you can pretty much safely do whatever you want fairly easy.

Im sorry, but as far as I remember, Eevee was never a starter pokemon. They put out starter pokemon in sets of three with one fire, one water, and one grass. Only exception to that was pokemon yellow, correct me if im wrong

Well technically Eevee is your rival's starter in yellow, it's just the player doesn't get one until later in the game. This is one pretty tough, so I guess you can say for me Charmander, Mudkip (and not just for the meme), and Piplup.

Dude, seems like most people favor Charmander, and that includes me. When I first started Blue version I chose Charmander, and he was awesome. The next time I restarted I chose Bulbasaur. I don't know why Bulbasaur isn't favored as much, but I'm guessing it's because America got Red and Blue instead of Red and Green.
