ok heres the question

why do americans write the date like this 11/20/11, say for today.

surely writing it as 20/11/11 makes more sense than putting the month at the middle?

what do you think? crazy or logical?

I think 11/20/11 makes more sense. When I say the date aloud, I say, "November 20th, 2011." So it seems right to me. But I'm American, so I'm biased.

This. When you write it out the month comes first, so why not with numbers as well?

I think putting the month in the middle only for the numbered way is illogical.

Month,day,year. That is how I pronounce it so, to me, it flows better.

Americans say it that way because its laziness. The fifth of November. November fifth. See, one is shorter and as such is used.

I write dates like 11-30 for today, and 11-30-11 month-day-year. Because I leave the year out since most people should know what year it is.

I'm from America so most of the time if its not an important document I drop the year.

But I can understand putting the day in front. or saying it 30th of November.

Hah, that funny because where I work, I have to write it Day/Month/Year as opposed to Month/Day/Year. I think both ways work, though it gets confusing sometimes when I try to write a check and I have to think about what I write for the day.
