So they are technically equal?true or not the wiki explains them both containing their own level of reitsu aside from what ichigo is able to draw from them.hollow ichigo gains power as ichigo is lost in turmoil while zangetsu only gains power as ichigo remains noble. not accurate but its the jist of what I read.(not power but dominance inside ichigo)also they both fight differently so this sorta adds to the question cause hollow ichigo is berserk and wild while zangetsu is calm and plans the next move. Which wouldnt explain why the hollow self is always seen as subservient to Zangetsuhe doesn't start off using both, in the dire need for more power his hollow side comes to the surface to save his ass, hollow ichigo explains that if ichigo would die then he would to.ichigo gaining the know how to summon the hollow within him is still the tip of the iceberg of course.subservient to zangetsu, is mainly as i see it in the eng dub is that hollow ichigo wants control over his body and powers, zangetsu is only the sword but has knowledge to make ichigo stronger, and in turn zangetsu gets stronger too, hollow ichigo respects zangetsu for training ichigo, because when ichigo is not strong enough to hold the hollow in him at bay then he gains everything that zangetsu taught ichigo.but im not 100% on this, bleach is left so many holes, but the main characters are cool to follow. At some point (more than likely when Ichigo was about to die by Byakuya's hands) Hollow Ichigo gained control and Zangetsu become apart of him more. The two co-exist still inside of Ichigo but Hollow Ichigo merely has dominance but its not due to power its due to Ichigo's state of emotions. Also Zangetsu doesn't seem much like he cares one way or the other (he always as the calm demeaner and tends to not care much when Hollow Ichigo says to him that one day all Ichigo's power will be his). This being said Zangetsu might actually be more of the type who is incredibly powerful but just tends to let things happen until he is really needed. These kinds of people usually are the strongest ones. And in the above post Ichigo's though is always fighting for noble causes even when he calls upon his Hollow mask so then that being said wouldn't then Zangetsu become stronger as well constantly?
