Goldstandard90
Well considering I'm at my wit's end about this I figured it wouldn't hurt any to ask here about it. Turns out one of the books I ordered in the mail for my class was covered in a "USED BOOKS" glued on cover over the original, and while i have painstakingly removed it, it still has a lot of residual glue left on both the front and back of the book. I'm afraid to put the book in my backpack as I don't want it sticking to my other books as well, and it's so bad I also fear I would have trouble getting a bag off of it. I shouldn't be able to place my hand on a good sized book like that and hold it straight in the air without any additional support, so if anyone has any remedies to this situation I would much appreciate it. Wake
Not sure if you were willing to spend money but a product called Goo Gone should work for you. It's pretty cheap and works great, you should be able to find it just about in any hardware store or walmart type place.
Goldstandard90
Well I do have money, especially considering that the other half of my financial aid for the semester comes in next week so as long as it isn't ridiculously expensive I'd be willing to try it. Thanks I'll look into it.
† Talena Mae
try a damp cloth with a little bit of dishwashing liquid on it, (the cloth must be mostly dry as to not damage the book)
Diablo
You can use Vinegar or a Alcohol based cleaner or Nail polish remover. Put any one of these on a paper towel and rub the area carefully. Hopefully they won't damage your book.

Koby
I don't know what'll remove the glue.. but often when I buy used games or dvds they'll come with stickers on them so I pull them off the cases and it'll leave a sticky residue sometimes. What I do is rub a dry paper towel over it.. which the glue picks up particles of it and it covers up the stickiness so it won't stick to stuff. It doesn't always look good, but at least the stickers are gone and it's not sticking to everything it touches and best of all the solution was something you'd already have at your house. ZeroPenguins
If I remember correctly household ammonia can remove sticky glue. If not then I got no idea.
