mustardshake57
Have you ever been licked by a dog, get grossed out byit, and then someone say: 'his mouth is cleaner than a human's mouth'My question is: Is this true????No way does something that licks it's own butt have a cleaner mouth than i do. Koby
It's what you call a 'myth'. It's not true. Heck most dogs I see by the time their 6-years old their teeth are brown, decaying, and rotting in the back of their mouth.
† poetictragedy
I can say from experience that this is untrue. Dogs eat gross things, lick themselves, and, like Koby said, their teeth are usually terrible. And they have bad breath. Yuck.
Kusanagi
The reason they say they are cleaner is something to do with the type of bacteria and enzymes in their saliva. I don't know how they test it exactly.. But if you can keep your dog only eating food, and not licking itself, it would have a cleaner mouth than you according to those tests. Good luck with that though
Prophecy
It's what you call a 'myth'. It's not true. Not exactly a myth, but no longer true either. Dog's were used to clean wounds and sterilize cuts, etc, because, as stated above, their saliva contains a healthy bacteria and enzyme. It's actually the reason why they lick themselves, and others when injured.Of course, this isn't very true any more, since the foods we feed them aren't like they used to be back then. Wiki would have more answers for you.
