Tommy071095
I'm aware that in both the U.S and Canada certain anime airs on television.Unfortunately here in the only anime that airs on are Studio Ghilbi movies on the odd occassion and shitty series such as Yu-Gi-Oh,Digimon,Pokemon and Bakugan. It seems the only way to get good anime these days is by buying exspensive DVD's (which are a bit less exspensive when you them online) or watching them online, which many, including me do not really like doing. It was not always this way. I remember when in like 2000/2001,my faveourite T.V. show was Dragonball Z,which was shown dubbed, uncensored on a mainstream channel along with other anime.10 years later I find myself asking, what happended! I'm pretty sure i'm not only English person who feels this way.The anime market in the U.K. is large and profitable and I don't see why any networks won't show any anime which isn't by Ghilbi. The only anime that I own is both Ghost In The Shell movies and the whole series of Cowboy Bebop.I'm pretty sure if they were to show more anime on T.V. people would no longer upload it on the internet and would probably buy more DVD's.So once again I ask myself why is there no anime on U.K. T.V.! I would like to hear what other people in the U.K. think about the current state of U.K. anime market.
DrumRoll
I live in the UK and second this question. After all, they let just about any shit on TV now days anyway but don't show anime:(
Koby
It's not just the UK really. Even in the USA at the moment the only shows airing new episodes are Bleach, Dragon Ball Kai, and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's. I may be forgetting something or leaving something out but we did just have Kekkaishi finish airing and I'm not sure if Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has passed the DVD/Blu-ray releases again yet or not. Naruto Shippuuden was airing but I think it quit airing a few weeks ago for some reason.
Avith
Yeah, the US doesn't air much anime either, but it doesn't bother me because even if it did, I'd still just download everything anyways. More dubbing would be nice though.

Koby
Honestly I don't care about the TV airings of most of what is airing. Bleach I watch subtitled, Dragon Ball Kai yeah I'm watching rips of the TV airing, YGO 5D's I'm watching too but only because I dropped the show and deleted all the fansubs then was convinced to pick back up but didn't want to mess with downloading it all over again so just slowly watching the one episode a week that is aired, Naruto Shippuuden I watch subtitled, FMA Brotherhood I've already finished watching and I'm downloading the Blu-rays as they are released. I don't care for any of the shows Toddler Naruto mentioned either. =PAdult Swim is going to air Durarara!! soon but it's already fully released on DVD so I don't see much point in their doing so and I won't even bother with them either. If they want to keep people interested in watching Anime on TV then they need to work on getting Anime that isn't long shonen series as well as work on only airing Anime that hasn't been released to DVD and then keep the airing ahead of the DVD releases. There are a lot of new Anime they could be airing on TV that fit this and would get people to watch it (or maybe just download the caps) if they actually did this but instead they begin airing stuff already released and everything else that isn't is long series that many got tired of waiting on and switched to subs. †RazorDan
I completely and utterly agree! i miss the good old days of watching gundam, DBZ, beyblade, shaman king etc. this may be a bit far fetched but me and a friend had this idea to try raise a whole load of money so we can get a free to air channel on Sky, there's so many random rubbish ones!. we would then buy U.K rights and show the anime. however, this aim has about a 1% chance of succeeding lol so I hope some rich broadcaster sees that there's a lot of money to be made out of this and decides to do it
CardCaptorAngel
I love that idea- ashame that i'm not rich- or know anyone who is rich enough. I remember the good old days too- there was everything from sailor moon and cardcaptors, shaman king, rave master, outlaw star, phantom memory kuraru, pani poni dash, azumanga dioh, zoids, dragonballz, naruto, jinki extend and i even watched evangelion on uk tv too. I looked slightly into this for an extra credit report, and it seems that its because of our censorship committee- but, like the others have said, there are loads of programs worse than anime on tv that are allowed. If they are worried about mature content and swearing, then why is south park airing? maybe we need to send like a million letters saying that we demand anime lolAt least we have some salvation in the form of hmv and cex selling anime dvds- but they are expensive- and waterstones and whsmith selling manga. Most of the anime dvds that i buy are region 1 online imports - my dad paid for the upgrade to our dvd players especially for anime. I don't know what I would do if I hadn't found online sources like here.

A CARAVAN CHANNEL WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So apprently anime is not profitable, but a 24-hour caravan channel is?There is something seriously wrong with this country. †RazorDan
told you about the random rubbish channels! anyway, I did a bit of research:Start up cost over the first six months would be aboutGBP 1,700,000Without Broadcast Content of courseI really hope thats 1.7 thousand NOT million lol
BURNTHEPRIEST
I remember there being a channel on Sky a couple years ago that showed anime from 8 or 9 pm onwards but unfortunately, it didn't last long. Had a good lineup too, GITS, Cowboy Bebop, Neon Genesis Envangelion among others. Hell there was even a gaming channel, that's gone too now I think... mando_22
I live in the U.S. so I can't say anything firsthand. But I do remember reading a news blurb a while ago on the U.K. passing a "dangerous cartoons law" or something like that. Did that have something to do with the decrease on TV?

But in the end they only used to show so much like They would show Gundam seed but instead of then airing Gundam seed destiny they just repeated seed again and they did the same with bleach got to the end of the third season then repeat over and over. Sky needs to sort out their cartoon package or at least have a bunch of channels that you can pick from and then that can be something like a custom customer channel package. I'd pay for that if they had some decent channels available. Even the SyFy over here blows hard. If I can recall I used to watch anime films on SciFi back in the U.S. that aired past 12:00 am but that was like almost 10 years ago...
