DmC is an upcoming action game developed by Ninja Theory and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It will be the first title in the series not to be developed internally at Capcom. Instead, development will be handled by the English studio Ninja Theory, while the Japanese and American branches of Capcom will supervise the production creatively and logistically.

Development

The game was officially announced by Capcom at their press conference during the 2010 Tokyo Game Show in September, confirming an earlier rumor in the May 2010 issue of Game Informer which said that the fifth Devil May Cry game would be developed by Ninja Theory. An announcement trailer was also released, giving players a taste of the new direction of the game. The title will use the Unreal Engine.

In an interview published on the video game blog Kotaku, lead producer Alex Jones explained that Capcom contacted Ninja Theory because of the good impression their previous game Heavenly Sword had on Capcom staff. Jones stated that Capcom executives appreciated the way Ninja Theory builds games around the characters and not vice-versa: in the interview he stated that "Outside of creating just amazing looking art, Ninja Theory really do embed narrative in their games in a way that is relatively sophisticated, Japanese game design also starts with a character and then builds a game out from there."

Initial reception to the new design of Dante and direction of the series was mostly negative. In an interview, Capcom revealed that they knew Dante's new look would be met with negative backlash and that they pressed forward with this in mind: DmC is an origin story.

During the 2011 E3 convention Ninja Theory presented an in game trailer, pointing out it is "work in progress game-play". The trailer shows the newly designed Dante in an urban setting that demoniacally transforms as the battle commences. He uses what appears to be a Devil Trigger, a demonic boost to his powers, opposing the claims of an origin story since this technique first appears in Devil May Cry 3 which chronologically succeeds Ninja Theory's DmC. The trigger bares striking similarities to the "Witch Time" mechanic that was used in Bayonetta, as enemies appear to be frozen in time while the environment shifts to a color overlay (Bayonetta with Purple, DmC with Black and White).

Reboot to Devil May Cry with a younger Dante. Gameplay footage makes this look like it could possibly suceed in being the best game of the franchise maybe. However it seems many fans do not like the direction the series is headed and dislike Dante's new appearance.

*sigh* I dont really care what he looks like as long as its a kick ass game. Im from the uk btw, and emo isnt the new cool ¬_¬

Its looking into Dantes younger self, so maybe he was a druggie looking emo before he became the Dante that we all know and love.

To not want to play the game just based on the way they have made him look is kinda stupid. Can you really be a 'fan' if thats the only reason you wont play it? Ill be playing it, so will my DMC fanatic brother and sister, who know every game inside and out. If the gameplay or the storyline suck, or it makes no sense, then ill have something bad to say about it. Otherwise im gonna give it a chance, and maybe learn something new about the very cool, kick ass, demon slaying Dante B]

Is it me or did they model Dante after ninja theory's creative director, Tameen Antoniades (click the link to see for yourself) lol. I never did play the previous games but I did enjoy the animated series, so i'll keep an open mind as far as the game goes.
