Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City

Well. Time to revive this thread because everybody love them some free stuff, and I know some of ya'll will love these web-searching hunts. If you haven't been keeping up on RE:ORC, there's been a viral website egg-hunt search sorta intergrated with Facebook/Twitter where you'll be given the ability to search for codes in this ongoing commercial advertisement imho.

So far, I've gotten all the codes thus far to week 5. If anything, week 4's clue was what gave me a run for my money. After week 5's clue, you're enabled to maybe a special DLC weapon code (from my speculation) for participation in the program.

http://www.insertedevil.com/home <--- Go Ahead, Link your accounts and take a stab at it; I spent about an hour or two on it now.

Also as a quick tip, the codes are not a specific amount of characters/numbers, but they will all include ORC within them.

So! It's supposedly aimed at X360/PS3/PCs and coming this winter, which one is everyone getting? I'll probably be picking up a X360 copy, if not a PS3 copy.

On another note, what do you guys think of it - from what we have so far?

- Is it going to be a flop?

- GOTY?

- Better or worse for the series?

I don't think it'll completely tank as it seems to be pretty intriguing so far. It'll at least stir up some talk and bring in devoted Resident Evil fans. The concept is fairly simple when it comes to multiplayer so there's nothing really special or flashy about it. And from what I can understand - this game might be considered non-canon since "Kill Leon" is a motive for the U.S.S. (Umbrella Security Service). I doubt throughout the entire time of RE2, Leon was single handed-ly being hunted by Umbrella; at that point he was just a no-name rookie cop/first day on the job.

I just read an article from Kotaku that the goal of multiplayer is to score points slaughtering the opposing team as well as high-threat level B.O.W.s; and you even get points for severely wounding the opposing team & enabling the zombies/B.O.W.s to finish them off since the "Zombies" can find players through the triple S categories:"smell, sight, sound." Overall it seems really simple, once you throw in the fact that we get to use "big guns" to get the job done; not to mention they apparently have a "cover" system that can be utilized as well as in some of the pictures of using a zombie as a "meatshield" (which was used in the Gears of War series.)

Lol, I'm not that fond of any of the male characters to Resident Evil; other than maybe Wesker from like RE:Zero. I think I liked playing as Clarie Redfield the most, especially in Code Veronica. I don't get why people get hard ons for Leon... Shrugs.

As towards your negative thought about the multiplayer setup, I think it'll play like a RE-themed L4D. In the campaign you get to play as one of four specialists, and the multiplayer part is pretty much a standard "Mercenaries" game - which I'm willing to bet there is already a standalone regular "Mercenaries" mode as well.

Huh, in that sense - I wonder if that Mercenaries mode is anything like the original RE3's?... Haha, they did say they will be revisiting many places within Raccoon City that us RE Junkies would probably like while going down memory lane.

So is this some sort of fps type thing like Lost Planet but with Zombies, or is this a rail shooter like Darkside Chronicles, or something awesome and similar to RE4 and RE5, or is it going to be more homage to tank like controls of the older RE games?

If it's similar to RE4 and RE5 in the controls and gameplay then heck yeah I'll be getting it. If it's a rail shooter or mainly just some fps with zombies then I might but chances are slim... if it's going to have shitty controls like the old games I sure as heck wouldn't get it.

Dude, it's Leon, what's wrong with you lol so I wonder if this is like some kind of retelling of Re2 or just a non canon story, cuz I wouldn't mind seeing Ada again either, and honestly if it plays like Left 4 dead, that'll probably be a big turnoff for me, I just don't have the time or friends to play coop, and every single Re game I've played It's always been single player and I prefer third person over first tbh, but I guess whether or not I get this would really depend on if it's Canon or not.

Yeah, from everything I'm reading/saw on videos - it's apparently a TPS type shooter akin to RE4 & RE5.

In regards to how this game fits into the RE series, a video on the X360 Dashboard from Capcom Captivate noted that this game isn't numeralized in the specificity that it allows them plenty of elbow room to experiment with what "fans" really want, as in a darker experience compared to RE4/5 - So I want to go out on a limb and assume this game is purely non-canon?

I think its basically Left 4 Dead: Resident Evil Edition.

Which I'm completely okay with...

Yup, that's kinda what I mentioned earlier from my opinions of it so far.

Judging from these seemingly legit screenshots, It looks like it's gonna be a third person shooter like re 4- 5 (look at the last one) good news indeed.

Lol, it's already been announced that its a Third-Person Shooter; it's also coming out Winter 2011. Sheesh D: Did anyone bother looking at all the links I posted in the initial post? >///<

I take it there'll be four player co-op so you could always find three of us from the forums Koby, haha. By the way, which rig are you getting it for? I think my brother and I will just get a X360 copy cause most of our friends all have the 360. I know one of my friends sold his PS3 because he didn't play on it often.

^That trailer is actually legit. Pretty Bad ass if I do say so myself. Though I guess this game is pretty clearly non-canon considering how that trailer just seem to have "executed" Leon. The first half of the trailer lead me to believe that it could actually work had they put a cheesy end to it, but now I think it's purely non-canon.

That's probably because it is non-canon. This is developed by Slant Six, rather than Capcom themselves, also.

Well, it's being co-developed by Slant Six with Capcom; most likely just to lend a hand in incorporating the multiplayer aspect of the game since they did so well with Socom.

Knowing our luck, they have a decision based system where if you fail to do something, it'll have an effect later in the game (Like for example, destroying a room of B.O.W.s causing the collapse of that room; which ironically you had to get through to get to an extraction point later in the game) and following a certain path will give us a canon ending.
