I'm going to go back to a classic and pick Misa Hayase from SDF Macross. Not to say that there's not a number of females I may like to look at but as far as character, Misa struck me as a competent military officer who was neither overly sexualized or pigeon-holed by any given single character trait. She evolved throughout the series and seemed one of the most "normal" female characters in a genre given to exaggerations and on occasion, horriblly one-dimensional portrayals.
