The Hakuhodo DY Music and Pictures booth at the AnimeJapan 2019 event announced on Saturday that Kumo Kagyuu and Noboru Kannatsuki's Goblin Slayer light novel series is inspiring a new episode. The episode, titled Goblin Slayer: Goblin's Crown, will premiere in theaters in Japan. The main staff and cast members are set to reprise their roles.

SB Creative began publishing the dark fantasy novel series under its GA Bunko imprint in February 2016. The tenth volume went on sale on March 14. Kousuke Kurose launched a manga adaptation in Big Gangan magazine in May 2016, which has six compiled volumes in print as of last December.

White Fox produced a 12-episode anime adaptation in Fall 2018. Crunchyroll simulcast the show with subtitles while Funimation streamed an English dub.

Yen Press licensed both the light novel and the manga adaptation in May 2016 and published the sixth light novel volume on January 22 and the fourth manga volume last November. The company is also publishing the Goblin Slayer Gaiden: Year One (Goblin Slayer Side Story: Year One) and Goblin Slayer: Brand New Day side stories.

Since they're saying "will premiere in theaters", does that mean it's like a hour-long OVA?

Not sure at this point. Seems to infer it's just an episode and not a movie, but no length has been given. Some people thought initially it was a season 2 announcement, but that doesn't seem to be the case, despite the title being the title of the 6th chapter of the 5th volume.

Is it recap or based on the novels?

Like in my previous post, all we know at this point is that it shares the title of "the 6th chapter of the 5th volume" and the key art displays snow which hasn't happened yet. So it suggests it's likely about that particular arc of the novels and not a recap.
