Toru Iwatani ( the creator of Pac-Man ) revealed that the power-up idea was inspired by Popeye , who often defeated his arch rival Bluto by eating spinach . The day is celebrated in memory of his death and subsequent entrance to heaven rather than his day of birth. The first celebration was also not in Ireland, it was in New York in 1762. Legend has it that 9th-century goat herders noticed the effect caffeine had on their goats, who appeared to "dance" after eating the fruit of the Coffea plant. I think they are talking about the times of war when they used horses in battle.
