Inuyashiki Manga By Gantz's Hiroya Oku Gets TV Anime Adaptation

Fuji TV's Noitamina programming block revealed during a livestream event on Thursday that Hiroya Oku's Inuyashiki manga is getting both a television anime series and a live-action film adaptation.

 

The television anime series will premiere in October 2017 on the Noitamina block, and the live-action film will premiere in 2018. Keiichi Satou (Tiger & Bunny, GANTZ:O, Rage of Bahamut Genesis) is the chief director of the series at studio MAPPA. Shuhei Yabuta (3D director for Iron Man, Highschool of the Dead, Attack on Titan) is directing the series.

 

Kodansha Comics is releasing the manga in print, and it released the fifth compiled volume on October 18. Crunchyroll is also releasing the series digitally, and it describes the story.

 

    Ichiro Inuyashiki is down on his luck. While only 58 years old, his geriatric looks often have him written off as a pathetic old man by the world around him and he's constantly ignored and disrespected by his family despite all that he's done to support them. On top of everything else, his doctor has revealed that he has cancer and it appears that he has little time left in this world. But just when it seems things couldn't get any worse, a blinding light in the night sky strikes the earth where Ichiro stands. He later wakes up to find himself unscathed, but he soon starts to notice that there's something…different about himself.

 

Oku launched the manga in Kodansha's Evening magazine in January 2014, and Kodansha will publish the manga's eighth volume in Japan on January 23. Oku plans to continue the manga until it ends in 10 volumes.

I have high hopes for this. Shuuhei Yabuta is an incredible 3D director and I can't wait to see him make his debut as the director of an entire anime. The premise seems very interesting as well.
