Steam Summer Sale 2013

Aight, ladies and gentlemen. It's that time of the year. People can argue console specs and exclusives till hell freezes over but this event, this majestic, glorious event that is the Steam Summer Sale is where the PC Master Race truly comes to glory.

Valve starts putting discounts on things like there's no tomorrow and during this craze, I begin to understand how women (and some men) in shopping malls surrounded by 50 and 75% off stickers must feel like.

SO, LET'S MAKE THIS THREAD THE GO-TO PLACE FOR STEAM PURCHASES!

Basically, 3 rules -

1) You see a game that you've played/heard of/let's played/reviewed with a reasonable discount.

2) You think that game is good and people need to play it.

3) You let EVERYONE know that that game is going, going and gone and list out the following -

  • Name -
  • Original Price -
  • Sale Price -
  • Time Left to Purchase -

In addition, Steam also has community votes for 3 random games every 8 hours at the end of which, the highest voted game gets a discount. If you want a game to get voted, let us know and WE'LL ALL GO AND VOTE FOR YOUR GAME, YO!

Aight, Imma start off with the following -

  • Hotline Miami
  • $10
  • $2.5
  • ~40 hours

  • Thomas Was Alone
  • $10 or 15
  • $2.5
  • ~40 hours

  • Counter Strike GO
  • $15
  • $5.??
  • ~6 hours

Now I know Kotaku is doing their own Moneysaver thingamajig, but I really wanna know what games YOU GUYS think need to be bought and are at an all time reasonably low price to get it. Capiche? Aight, let's get this thing rolling.

Well, I bought CS:GO at 66% off and The Last Remanent and 66% off. Both are likely to be as low as it gets. There aren't many other games I really am looking for, although I hope that both Borderlands go on sale for a decent price. Other than that, I'll probably just look at the daily deals and flash deals for cheap stuff that I didn't know I wanted.

These new trading cards have me curious this time around. I know they've been around for awhile, but I haven't bothered getting any of them. Hopefully just voting every 8 hours gets me some cards and then I can get the badge. :>

Sell them. You get 70-90 cents per card so you can get games even cheaper! Capitalism ho!

Also on that note, the Carpe Fulgar Collection is on for 75% off, its totally worth it.

Speaking of sales... I'll see if that penny transaction on Best Buy actually goes through. Very very amusing goof involving Metro: Last Light which is supposed to be an NVIDIA card promotional title being available for just 1 cent. Either I'm out the penny because they stomp all over the goof or I get a $60 game out of it.

Either way... gambling on that for a penny is worth it. XD

Borderlands 2 Had just been been reduced to $10 on Microsoft for Xbox $360 for the Gold Subscriber Event or whatever they announced at E3 this year so I don't imagine that dropping any lower than 10 for Steam. Even $15 is worth the base game along imho. If anything, those games tend to come at a more meaty price of like $30 with DLC.

That's the kinds of deals that bargain hunters should be chasing after.

I personally don't have any particular games that I want besides maybe Bioshock Infinite, but that's one of those games that I've never paid more than $20 for. Don't get me wrong, great games and worth any penny if priced higher; but this is just how I work and budget myself to afford gems while being somewhat fiscally responsible.

I'd like to point out that as of this post for just under 5 hours remaining... the Borderlands 2 game is a community pick. And that ALL of the DLC including the skins is 66% off. Instead of a buck the skins are 33 cents each. So if you actually wanted any of them, would be a good time to pick them up.

Haha. I just saw that on Steam. About another Half hour before that community pick goes away~

So how did you guys do?

I got the following:

Deus Ex: Human Revolution - $2.99

Just Cause - $0.27 (lol it was a pricing error I think so yay)

Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed - $7.49

Yeah I didn't plan on buying things but I did anyway lol. I needed a card so I figured I would get $10 worth of stuff. Ended up being a duplicate anyway!!!

I really should have gotten Darksiders II when it was 80% off but for some reason I didn't. I'm sure it will be reeeeally low come winter time.

I checked, apparently I only spent about $94 on the sale. So with the 20-30 reduction for trading cards, I didn't do badly. Also it gave me motivation to go through my backlog faster.

Also on a side note, huzzah! 32 more games have the potential to give me more games with their trading cards

CS:GO

Skyrim

The Last Remanent

Borderlands 1 and 2

Bastion

Dark Souls

Y's 1, 2, and Oath in Felghana

Fallout: New Vegas

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

Binding of Isaac

Gmod

Just Cause x2

Borderlands 2 - Psycho Pack.

I usually don't get DLC unless it's an expansion pack but god damn, this character just looks so fun to play as. That said, the only other thing I got was Borderlands 2 itself as well as the Gold upgrade for Civ 5.

This summer sale was really meh to me. Hope the XMas one is better.

can someone explain the gist of these trading cards to a simpleton like myself.

Cards are a way of showing how big your ePenis is and so that Valve can sell more games and make money on microtransactions. Either buy cards so you can get fancy badges and look fancy, or sell them and get about 50 cents of steam wallet per game with trading cards. I funded about 20-30 dollars of my steam summer sale with the selling of cards
