Koby
I've got the FX-8150, and I know at least 5 other people with it as well who all do major video encoding and/or gaming on it and it's been excellent for us all. No issues whatsoever and it's amazingly fast. With encoding by utilizing all cores, it encodes even faster than the best Intel CPU from a few months back during tests. I'd recommend the FX-8150 to anyone looking into video encoding or doing something where they can actually make use of all the cores.I've got no experience with the FX-6100 though, sorry you've had issues. ZeroPenguins
You should update the BIOS if you have issues with it, like what you have right now. My recommendation that you don't update the BIOS unless you really have to, even though its relatively safe sometimes you can brick the motherboard. It has happened to me one time, it's more due to the fact it's an Intel motherboard and shit loads of other people have the same issue after updating. Even the safe fail BIO updating didn't work for me. I basically had to get a new board. But for your case I highly doubt it, if it's from ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI you should be fine. My current one for my Intel i7 920 CPU is a GIGABYTE one and it updates quite nicely.

Wait so I did not have to jump from version to version......Yeah you didn't have to jump from version to version. Lol that was a waste of time, did you try clearing your CMOS? Maybe resetting everything back to normal again might help. If you really want to see if Windows is an issue, try booting up a Live Linux and see if you get lag spikes on there, if you do then it has something to do with your hardware not OS. Or could be some stupid power settings on the BIOS.

I used a Linux I have used in the past called ubuntu it did not have lag spikes so I reinstalled my windows os I am now on the new version but I am puzzled at why the iso as I lost my old disc is 300 mb bigger than the old one I had I know this because I found the back up iso that I couldn't find before the reinstall, do you think that might be a problem I downloaded it off the forums so it should be fine. other good news is that windows can now see that I have 16 gb of ram not 9 gb but I am still wondering what was causing the lag spikes any ideas? ZeroPenguins
Did you tried to get the new drivers or control panels for the CPU? Like I said, if it only happens on windows then it's something to do with windows. Did you check Task manager to see if any processor jumping to 100%? ZeroPenguins
Was there any processes that were taking up CPU usage? You could try tampering with the turbo, though I would look at the power saving setting such as throttling. Another reason could be your temps are too high and it can cause lag spikes, since the CPU has to keep changing voltages to accompany the temp changes. If it's max load then that sounds fine, if it's just idling at 60C then you will need a new CPU heatsink or you didn't install the stock one correctly. Wise Wolf
I may be an not very experienced with computers when it comes to system problems but I do know how to find an heatsink correctly idle if I can remember correctly was about 40 when using my CPU it can reach up to 80C that is when I turn it off. i have alarms set to go off when it hits 60C so then I know to start shutting down
†An IP BreAKDoWN
What cpu cooler do you have, and did you apply your own thermal paste? I'd get a H70 with some SP120's in a push -> pull configuration. Or maybe some noctua heat sinks if you can't find the closed looped water coolers. As for the thermal paste I use Arctic Silver 5. With the gigantic chipset I had to smear it across the entire chip since I didn't trust the "grain of rice" method, and remember less is always more when it comes to the thermal paste. To be honest it shouldn't be any thicker than a piece of paper, so please use caution. I have a 8150 myself and I'll be upgrading to the 8350 soon. :> Edited October 25, 2012 by An IP BreAKDoWN
