I remember some vague rumblings about people not going to mission and then higher ups threatening to punch them if they really did skip, haha.

There are some roofers on the next building over, I'm pretty sure they're gonna hit our apartment next. That means I have to close all the blinds and shutters so they can't stare at me. I'm about two seconds away from putting crude messages in the windows now, but so far their biggest sin is being really noisy.

It's hot all over I guess. Personally I'm not to fond of either of the extreme's like there's no where with a nice medium. It's either burning, scorching, hot, or freezing icy cold.

Can your boss do that, cut your pay I mean? The only reason I ask is cause without good reason if they don't pay we don't work. Outlet might remember to but, there was a day in April of 2011 where they couldn't afford to pay the armed services. Since my contract clearly state's I get paid the 1st and 15th of every month to do a job my entire platoon skipped patrols for the day and chilled until they started paying us again.

Guess what? I'M SICK AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!! As if things were complicated already since our one-month fasting has begun so from dawn to dusk, we can't eat or drink anything............so with my throat, cough, cold, headache and fever, it's not doing any favours........... GAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, they can do that in my office which sucks big-time because we're supposed to be an advertising agency and agencies are supposed to be free and easy but here, we have all these ridiculous rules like some government office.........it sucks big time and very demotivating when we come here in the morning and try to do some work, or like some of us, while away time until we can go home.

Well I'm very sorry your sick again, I know it sucks. If you really are desperate to get better quick one thing you can try and do is sweat it out over night. It's easy because it's already hot out but, like anything it's going to really suck. You drink a lot of water to hydrate yourself nice and good, then you dress up in what you would normally wear over the winter and try and get the room hot as you can. Then take some sleeping pills and get your 8 hours.

This is REALLY not advised. I only used to use this method in high school when a big game was coming up and I had to be at my 110% for the sake of everyone else. Just like crash dieting it can be worse for your health in the long run. I just mentioned it because you seem like a nice person who really hate's cold's. I hate being sick to but, letting it run it's course might be better but, it's up to you. The slightly healthier alternative is hydrate up with water and pedialyte (no one really knows this but, pedialyte has more electrolytes then Gatorade or powerade) go to the gym and step off at a sprint on the tread mill and other cardio exercises. Sweating pushes out the disease. Don't know why but, this always worked for me in a jam when I had to be healthy quick.

Thanks for all that ........ it was really sweet of you to give that advice but unfortunately I can't follow any of it because I've just begun what we call Ramazan........we fast for a month from dawn to dusk............its to with my religion.........so I can't take pills of any sort and when you break the fast, drinking water is such a hard thing to do, although we are supposed to keep hydrated before the time for fasting begins and after breaking fast.

Which brings me to the next bad thing in my day.......I wanted to go home early for this fasting period because if I finished work at the usual time, I would end up going home really late and with nothing to eat or drink from something like 4 in the morning, it's torture........but guess what my dear boss does..........he says I can go off at 4.45 instead of the usual 5..........seriously, these people have no hearts at all.

Yeah I feel ya. Everyone in this country observes Ramadan to. We have to be especially kind to there culture during this month and we aren't allowed to eat or drink in front of them. But, that could explain why your sick. Your not getting all the nutrients you need and it seems like your boss stressing you out isn't helping anything. I haven't heard it called Ramazan in a long time though are you Hindustani?

@Rio..........I live in Sri lanka so we call it Ramazan or Ramadan..... :) Yeah I guess I'm not eating right and the stress is killing me more than the hunger...........and I can't get out of it!

@Job...........I'm going home pretty late so all I get to eat while breaking fast on my way home is only dates and water............so once I get home, I feel really sick and don't eat much, then I fall into my bed and sleep a bit.........then my mum wakes me up again later to eat a little bit more before I sleep again.......yeah it's a mad routine seeing that I'm going to work about half an hour earlier so I'm up earlier in the morn too.

This was originally going to be a giant rant/rage post but my day got made better. Anyway, I'm still unable to say this in real life so I'll 'get it off my chest' here.

To whom it may concern,

Can you not do that? That stupid smile that's so irresistably cute. you're so fucking beautiful, just date me already.

Also. ----

To the other person I'm thinking of.

If I'm letting you live with me, and I'm not hounding you about your life, stay out of mine. Brat.

Me, Minkseru, and our little Sakura got scary things happening here.  From the info I have on the neighbor who lives just on the other side of our wall...he is apparently suspected of drug dealing.  He has several cars coming, staying for maybe five minutes, and then leaving.  Happens all day and night...everyday.  I have a cop who lives just a couple houses down from me who is looking out for us and is providing the info.  It's been happening for sometime now and it's getting worse.  I'm afraid to get to involved because I'm pregnant and have a small child to attend to.  Thankfully, I've got neighbors looking out for me and the cop will let me know before something goes down so we can be out of the way and safe.  But this is still very scary.

That sounds terrible!

If you're worried about your safety at home, keep some (male) shoes near your front door, and hang a coat somewhere visible. Even when Minks is gone. So if anyone tries anything funny, they'll see that a man is still (not really) home, and hopefully they think twice. Even if it's just for peace of mind.

Anyway. I Hope it ends soon, and well.

Thanks.  I am worried...very much so.  Since Sakura and I are alone 5 nights of the weeks.  Not so worried about my home bring broken into as I am a raid going down and gunfire happening.  There is only a wall separating the neighbor and us.  The activity is has been very frequent.  Not much I can do other pray we don't get stuck in the crossfire.  This neighborhood has always been peaceful and quiet until certain people moved in.  I moved here because the neighborhood was nice and peaceful.  Now all of this is happening and it worries me.  Hoping it ends well to.

I'm sorry to hear that Dreamer but, I'm sure you will be fine. One thing Police Officer's learn when they first begin attending ranges in the academy is "Know your target and what lies beyond and n between." And the cop who lives down the hall from you sounds like a really nice chap, I'm sure he won't let anything happen to you or Sakura. If all goes well maybe you will be rid of that bad neighbor and someone nice will move in next door.

Someone's trying to tell me that not hiring a woman on the basis she might get pregnant is not discrimination, it's "just a general assholery".

Uh. Excuse you.

  • The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people or things, esp. on the grounds of race, age, or sex.
  • Recognition and understanding of the difference between one thing and another.

Tell me again that assuming pregnancy is going to be an issue, regardless of marital status, health, or sexual orientation, is not discrimination. Tell me again that assuming a married or engaged woman is automatically going to fall pregnant in the next six months is not discrimination.

Don't tell me it's "common sense" to assume children will be in the picture. I've been married for two years. No kids. Have a friend that's been married for maybe ten years. No kids. We have our reasons. Everyone does. We don't all follow the formula.

Sometimes I just want to choke people. When you start arguing semantics, playing devil's advocate, and trying to claim people are overreacting, you are not an ally.

Uh...yeah it is discriminatory. You can't assume a woman will have kids.  Some couples/women can't have kids do to medical reasons or whatnot.  Some don't want children for various reasons.  No one should automatically assume a woman WILL get pregnant no matter what.  I also want to choke people like that.

I don't understand, who's telling you this? A boss, a friend, a co-worker. Either way that's bad for business if someone say's "Hey where not going to hire you because you might get pregnant." That's probably one of the weirdest one's I've ever heard to. We aren't going to hire you because you might get pregnant doesn't make any sense. What are you applying for that some interviewer said something like this it just sounds so strange?

I've heard of a lot of cases of that over here where arrogant bosses don't want to hire people over issues such as this one or for the mere fact they are a woman. It doesn't go on a lot here but it still pops up every now and then and I'm getting pretty sick of seeing it, those people don't deserve the right to be a manager or a business owner if they aren't going to treat every potential employee or current employee fairly.

Former coworker who's always been super condescending towards me. Would call me "hon" when we're not even friends. That riles me up like nothing else, do not call me "hon" or "dear" unless we are friends.

It is illegal as balls to ask about stuff like marital status, disability, and religion during a job interview. I'm fortunate enough currently not to have gone to any interviews where this shit was pulled.

That said, that doesn't stop them from drawing conclusions of their own (first impressions and all that) and refuse to hire you based on those conclusions, even if they don't say it directly.

You hear about women who go into job interviews without their wedding or engagement ring because some people draw conclusions about that--maybe she'll end up pregnant! Maybe she's already pregnant! Maybe she won't care about the job because her husband is the one bringing home the bacon! All stupid assumptions.

Another gem from her: "The pregnant woman thing, it sucks, but I think the employers are looking at it in a practical light. They don't want to hire a new employee whose going to require extended time off soon, and may decide not to come back at all."

Okay, just like we should take into consideration that smokers can keel over and die at any moment, so we shouldn't hire them either.

I mean, really, what's the appropriate response to a person who is pregnant and searching for a job? Welp, fuck you and fuck off because clearly you're not going to show up to work?

Even though they might be a single parent? Even though they need the money to be able to support their child? Just gonna refuse to hire them and then later on down the road complain about how single parents are mooching off the welfare system and why should all your tax dollars have to go towards supporting lazy people, right?

One person said she wasn't hired for a part time job because she was pregnant, even though the job was for less than three hours a day.

You can talk practicality all you want, but I guarantee almost everyone has something about them that can be labelled a problem and justify not hiring them.

[transforms into a giant monster]

[destroys entire cities]

On a positive note, however, it's not all bad and there are places that are very accommodating and understanding.

I'm less upset about the status of the job market and interviewing procedures and more upset that someone would try to talk semantics to me about what is and isn't discrimination.

Playing devil's advocate is a real quick way to get me to dislike a person. It's condescending as fuck.

If you think you need to play devil's advocate to "help people understand their position better" or that they would somehow benefit from your "intellectual exercise", you're a total assmunch who thinks you're better than others, that people need your help and would be totally worthless unless you save them. It shows you don't see these people as your peers and equals, you see them as students, as lost sheep who need your guidance.

Good way of putting it especially the last part about people who pretend to care or understand but, really just use it as like some kind of excuse like there shit don't stink. I had a roommate like that who was 30 years old when I was only 23. He would talk down to me all the time even though I was senior to him in our line of work by almost 3 years. I finally exploded on him one day and put him in his place, we are still friends and he still remembers when and where I drew the line.

That's a big one I can't stand is the whole "I'm older so I'm smarter than you people." Bullcrap! This ain't high school knowledge and wisdom doesn't flow from people just because they have been alive longer, not in the 21st century. These day's the internet makes people book smart quicker than usual at a cyclic rate, all the answers are right there. And as for street smarts well that's earned over a very small amount of time, we constantly learn but, just because someone has a decade on me doesn't mean they know what's best for me.

The discrimination people seem to show in the working field can be pretty un-tolerable sometimes, I still can't figure out why people need to exercise there ego instead of just getting the job done. It pisses me off when I have to start working for like 45 minutes before people will help me and they do just so they won't look bad.

The job market seems pretty criminal these days its ridiculous.

Ageism is some balls, haha. I'm especially sensitive to it because people always tell me I look like I'm 16, so when they speak condescendingly to me (especially when they've teased me in the past about looking young), they're not even condescending to me as someone in their twenties, but as a teenager.

Someone in the NaNo group was telling me about her husband was in the military and you just have to suck it up and deal with being shit on. Like no, there's a level of being shafted and being fucked over that is unacceptable. Being told to work 16 hour shifts four nights in a row when there isn't a critical need for it is ridic no matter how you slice it. Just because you signed on the dotted line doesn't mean they can treat you like that.

I got so tired of hearing old fogies talk about the "good old days" and how it was so much better than the "kinder, gentler new military". Yet at the same time they can't figure out why linguists aren't reenlisting--when I separated, there were two other first term linguists on their way out with me, one who was on his second term (maybe), and before that I think there two or three 1N2s who separated. And obviously Java separated, so that's another 1N2. I know there were others in that squadron who were counting down the days until they could finally separate.

I will put up with a lot of crap, but not to the point of sacrificing what shreds of mental health I have left. That squadron and the people in it really soured me on the whole thing.

I guess with how much the AF as a whole struggles with force shaping and being bloated with so many people, they can afford to lose people--it's just too bad it's not in the AFSCs that actually are bloated. Far as I know, linguists--both ground and airborne--have been undermanned for ages, and they already have pretty high attrition rates in tech school.

Sometimes I wish I was in a personnel AFSC instead of intel, but I actually LIKE doing intel work.

I know the feeling. The hours they make us work do seem criminal but, that's why I put up with it. I think that this job is more set for the single individual than the married life although I could be wrong. Either way the work force especially that in the military has experienced a serious decline in the quality of there leadership. It seems everywhere I look people are being bullied by there leaders like it's some kind of sick joke or something.

Using fear on your subordinates has it's advantages but, it's not a end all be all to leadership. America wasn't built on an iron fist so in my opinion neither should it's workforce. I think people in higher positions often forget that being a leader means working for the people under you not the other way around.
