lemmingllama
So I was wondering if anyone knows a good way to fix a damaged monitor. I have a lovely laptop with a 16' monitor, and today someone must have bumped it or something while it was in its case and it now is sporting a lovely splotch on the screen. This is also sending some beautiful colourful bars everywhere that I dont want them. The glass on the screen is not broken, so thats at east a bit of good news. So is there any way to fix this, or will I have to spend some money on a new laptop? I know that it probably is impossible, and Im sorry that I wont be on the site as much anymore since I will now only be able to go on when I am home and using a spare monitortl;dr Monitor is broken, can it be fixed? † Mute point
Probably not fixed, but a replacement monitor would be possible.. Or hook up an external monitor.
kashem2
yea thats not fixable. if you have the warranty you should go with that if not see if theres a shop near be that could get and replace the screen. if you cant do/find those then and external monitor is your best bet(tho that makes having a laptop mute). till you could get a new laptop
lemmingllama
Sigh, wish I had a warranty, ive had this laptop for awhile though so I guess that it had to go. Well, guess its time to find a new one... I will probably either save it for power outages or make it a permanent attachment to my TV so I can watch anime. Jªvª
Actually its pretty easy to replace if you know what your doing. And from the looks of it relatively cheap at http://www.laptopscreen.com/.
ZeroPenguins
Lol depending on the damages, it could be just some wire loose but that's if you're lucky. Generally speaking LCD costs too much if you buy them alone.
impostor404
If it's under warranty, get it replaced. If it's not, try taking apart the laptop around the area of the screen. Like Ang3lofDarkness said, it could be something as simple as a wire getting dislodged. Something similar happened to the backlighting on my laptop, and it turned out to just be an internal plug that got loose. If it really is broken, I'd look for a replacement screen, but like several posters said, it could be a bit pricey. deathangel12
Try gently pressing down on the screen where the lines show up. It may get rid of a few of the lines you are seeing. I've had a problem with a blue line and green line in the center of my screen, sometimes it varies from one to 3 lines and colours. gently pressing down sometimes works. But luckily I do have warranty on my laptop so I definitely plan on taking it back for repair. The lines are most likely caused from a loose wire but as for the blotch that is probably damaged pixels and you will need to replace the screen. bezelbubba
dont press, the screen is already cracked, you will just make it worse. There is no fix for your laptop screen, sorry. run it externally on a monitor or hd tv or replace it. =(sorry
