Jªvª
I have to go with HL: Episode 2. As well Deus Ex: Human Revolution, wasn't really sad just more of the sad truth of it all.
yudi-kun
I'd have to say Persona 3 FES: the journey. Cause when you play the answer you find out that the Main character (Whom you played as) dyed in the arms of his friends at the end of the Journey. How bullshitty is that. You go all through that and die to protect the whole world? no matter how heroic it seems, I would still think that is shitty. I cried my ass off when i found that out. rue669
Nier has a sad ending. Regardless of what happens, everyone dies. It's inevitable.

Zoomy333
Planescape: Torment for me. No matter what you do, how virtuous you play, the decisions you make, it's inevitable. You will die and be sent to fight in the Blood War. The sheer evil of your past lives means there is no escape. Major bummer for a game that had such a great climax (if you talk the final boss to "death").
GinTheDark
Nier had the saddest ending of any game I've played. Outwardly, a couple of the endings could be considered kinda happy(the first two endings, specifically). But when you actually think about it, you realize that no matter which ending you get....The world is pretty much ending.

PhoenixPress
The end of Super Mario Sunshine always gets me, when Mario and FLUDD crash back into Delfino and you see from FLUDD's perspective as his hud fizzles out and he slips away as a result of catastrophic damage from the impact. Versailles
The end of Wild Arms 5 was a bummer. It introduced a particular problem for two main characters during the final cut scenes, then it just abruptly ended with no resolution of that problem. All we're left with is the assumption that they were just miserable for the rest of their lives.
