Buying DBZ Good Price ?

Well the Orange Bricks (the remastered dvd release) were terribly remastered. Missing lines, cropped video to 16:9, etc... but it's the cheapest method of buying the whole series. There is 9 box-sets. You can usually find them for around $15 new. Over Black Friday I think they were $10 each. Meaning $90-$135 is the normal price for the complete set brand new.

As I said... they cut a big chunk of the top and bottom of the video to change it from 4:3 to 16:9 for the Orange Brick release.

On top of that it was the worst remastering job ever done. Lines missing from characters, etc.. Just Google it.

Honestly, it's not even that cheap. There are 9 seasons and you can find most of them for about $12-$13 new on Amazon. And as Koby said, the picture on these was "ruined" because they were changed from fullscreen to widescreen.

If you want the best release, I would personally recommend the new Blu-ray ones that are currently being released, especially if you originally watched the series in the US. The picture is much, much better than even the Dragon Boxes that die-hard fans drool over. There will be 18 sets, each going for approximately $20 (I'm sure FUNimation will re-release these in cheaper sets in a year or two, just like they are with DB KAI), so it's really up to you. Buy what you think is worth your money :)

I hope they do, because honestly the Blu-ray is currently way over priced. The fact that DBZ is more than a decade old and seen more re-releases than any other show should be more than enough reason for the price to not be so high or to at least offer more episodes per set. There is no reason the Blu-rays should be as high as they are for such a small set of only 18 episodes or so. Hopefully they'll eventually release the Blu-ray on just 9 sets.

While Dragon Ball Z has had a ton of releases (from VHS to crappy DVD singles, the Orange Bricks, Dragon Boxes, and now the Blu-ray sets), I think that they've been very well priced considering the quality improvements they've had. As you said, it's a very old anime, and getting these in top quality is much different than releasing a Blu-ray of, lets say, FMA Brotherhood.

The Orange Bricks were pretty crappy, but these were in a time where everything was going widescreen (which is why the average fan wouldn't even be aware of how crappy they were). The Dragon Boxes had major improvements in picture quality, but weren't as appealing to the crowd as 1) they are limited sets and 2) the average American fan wants the American BGM. Now the Blu-ray has a much higher resolution, closer colors to the original, and the FUNimation audio that American's love. This is, in my opinion, the best, most complete release DBZ will get (though, I'm sure they're not done milking this cow). Now, the reason I say American's so much is because I've noticed that the British in particular, seem to hate the new Blu-ray release because they were never really exposed to the FUNimation audio. At least, that's what I'm led to believe.

Anyway, I honestly believe FUNimation will release these in new packaging a year or two down the road. It's what they're doing with KAI, with One Piece, why not with the Dragon Ball levels? I would assume that they will be double the episodes for around the price of 1 part now ($20). So yes, most likely 9 sets.

Well that would suck ass, cause by my calculations all of the DBZ Blu-Ray sets will cost you about $226 in total and then after that your telling me they might release a new packaging. Well atleast it will be the same thing.

Any ways as soon as I can find the R2 DVD I'm going order these sets cause they do look that good and it is worth the paper.
