In the united states there are two kinds of anime. Anime that is exported to other countries and anime strait from Japan that isn't ment for foreign eyes. Anime like Bleach or Naruto found on networks like toon network, vs things that are only found on the net from downloads.

Since I think things are a little sparse in terms of quality here in the states I watch stuff I find on the net. It's never dubbed and is usually fan-subbed a day or two after the series is finished.

i don't understand the premiss since there is no actual question.

but if your saying which is better then im all for searching the net for anything anime.

Then let me elaborate. Once upon a time there was no internet. No this wasn't the time of the dinosaurs it was the early to mid 90's. Most anime had been snatched from source and fan subbed for quit some time. The mainstream anime as we no it was a very small list. Transformers, Voltron to name a few. In short most anime hadn't come to Amarica yet. How ever, with the coming age of the toonami. By bringing more anime to the table people found out that making more anime mainstream was a good way to gather ratings. Now lets jump to the late 90's. (the last golden movement) Anime was moved from the shores of Japan on mass. With hits like Cowboy bebop, Poke'mon, plus others anime became "mainstream" hits. No more was anime confined to obscure geekdom, it had found a place in the cultures of other countries. After the new millennium things changed, the once golden movement began to die down. Things changed, but all was not lost. Fans found they could get there fix on the net, and sights like this one were born out of necessity. But not every one goes to sights like these, and some of the people who do don't look for subbed anime. Or there are a lot of fans who don't bother much with the net. They tend to gravitate to anime that is considard mainstream. Things like Naruto for example. This is mainstream here in the U.S.

So to rephrase the question. Are you some one who prefers waiting for new anime to come to the states before watching. Or are you someone who seeks the non mainstream anime that can be only found on the net.

I usually preferr to watch things in their original language (have had previous rants about crappy dubbing spoiling good shows! :)) so for me if i'm interested in a show I'll find it online somewhere downloadable (episode by episode as they are put up by fansubbers - yay for unlimited dowloads!) or buy it as soon as it's available from one of the online shops that I don't think is just selling selling ripped fansubs.

If I had to always wait for an official english release for everything i was interested in i'd never be able to watch anything and certainly not have the range of choice of shows available.

I like both to tell you the truth but with anime's like Ga-Rei-Zero I think they should've kept it japanese. Ga-Rei-Zero (not to be confused with its sequel that came first Ga-Rei) took 4 years to come to the U.S. it is only a 12 episode series being a prequel that was made later after the original. They screwed up the voice actors on it in the american version. The big buff guy has a voice that shouldve gone to another character who is thin and kindof a jokster. While the guy who was the jokster got a voice of someone who is big and buff. Also the 2 main characters the sisters their voices shouldve been reversed in american. The older had a voice that was squeaky like her younger sisters while the american younger sister had a voice of someone who was older. They just ruined it completely I think.

I like dubs too though like I watch Naruto dub because well I wear glasses and so I can't read without them. I play the anime to help me sleep and so I can't read subtitles then cus I don't have my glasses on :(. Also I can't stand Naruto's japanese catch phrase its so irritating compared to his american one.

The distinction you make is not really correct.

Primetime stuff like Naruto is touch-and-go,

but stuff like Ghost in the Shell and Serial Experiments Lain has played in North America.

I just like good anime, no matter where I get it.

I mean stuff that was released only in Japan vs things that were brought over to foreign countries. Usually stuff that would have been brought over seas was so that some one could make a profit with the fans not always in mind. Because of this there is a simple yet clear defined line between the two. I noticed that this makes the anime fan culture a little more deep than others. As this increased the styles at witch anime fans watch animes. You'll never here of a Treckie watching spock with subs with a Germen dub. Its not a world phenomenon like anime is. So I was just wondering if you were someing who leaned towards waiting and enjoying the in home network releases or went for the work intended searches for the exclusive stuff. Some one who checks the anime sites for future Dubbed dvd releases or some one who doesn't mind potentially becoming a pirate.
