Can someone recommend me one helluva messed up anime

Recommended Posts

I don't know why but I just love emo stuff, can anyone tell me of any anime which is just messed up and extremely sad, with a bit of romance if possible. It's a bit hard to explain but I'll try my best to explain it. I need an anime which is really sad, but with romance in it and also characters who are seriously messed up in the head. To put forward an example, the last few episodes of school days were really nice, if someone can help me find something else like that I would greatly appreciate it.

Elfen Lied. Honestly your description almost reads like a summary of that show. Maybe Higurashi When They Cry, though there isn't a lot of romance in that one.

Thanks for the suggestions Hicks, though I already watched these two animes.

Tokko is always a big "WTF?!" Imho.

I'll definately give it a try, thanks for the suggestions.

I honestly didn't think Elfen Lied was that messed up but then it takes a lot to make me think it is. Higurashi sounds a lot like what you're looking for. I'll look up some series I've seen later and see if anything might fit your fancy.

Yes, I'm looking for a Higurashi type of series though I would like something sadder and with a bit of romance, but I'm starting to think that a combination like that would be impossible, romance+sadness+messed up +blood= my ideal anime series. By messed up I don't mean as like in Higurashi where Keiichi was halucinating about all that stuff, I'm looking for a series where the character is messed up because he/she is so possessive.

I just thought of the perfect show.

School Days.

Don't think it was dubbed in English.

Watched it as well, the last few episodes were really awesome. My first post mentions that I would like something that looks like the last few episodes of School Days. Ok how about a romance anime with a possessive character and bloodshed.

Thanks for the suggestion, will try it.

just watched the first episode, seems interesting.

Hmm... well these may be close or not so close to what you're looking for but may fit the bill somewhat.

Gantz

Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne

Saikano (haven't seen this one, but from what I've read it's extremely similiar to Elfen Lied)

Kara no Kyoukai

sola (same as what I said about Saikano)

Shiki (vampires, very little romance though)

Basilisk

Like I said some may not really be close to what you're wanting but they share common traits.

Tokko is definitely an odd one, but it immediately came to mind because you wanted something somewhat gorey/blood dark and purely "WTF?" I mean the anime is overall nice, animation is good, etcetc. Story seems to be lacking though when you get near the final episode (iirc its about 12 episodes long or something?). And there is somewhat of a romance plot, it's implied but not really reinforced me thinks.

Rin is the one about the immortal detective wasn't it? I saw two episodes and that had something to do with zombies? Though it was more about immortality I think.

Kara no Kyoukai is something that I dearly want to watch, especially ever since I saw a certain AMV for it. It's mostly supernatural from what I can tell.

Basalisk, its not really "dark-dark" but is fits your wants.

Yes, looks like I will be busy for quite some while. I already started Shiki and Gantz a month ago Gantz is a just cool but I'm really digging into Shiki and you gave me more of a reason to watch Rin. Thanks for the suggestions.

I'd suggest Rin: Daughters of Mnemosyne, and yes I'm aware it has already been suggested. There are immortals in it and in fact centers around them, but the main character is tortured quite a bit and does have a love interest she can't see because he might kill her and when they finally do get together it's not for very long. *shrugs* I thought it was dark and sad and really good for being only 6 episodes long. FYI it is rather graphic though, but it doesn't sound like that will bother you.
