Arvo
no its not .... learning a language because its interesting is far better than learning it just to watch the raw/sub animeWhat's close-minded about it is you saying, "one more language to add in your BioData when you try to get a job".I do agree with you about learning something because it's interesting rather than learning to understand anime with Japanese audio. However, people have their own reasons to learn a language and it really shouldn't matter to you anyway. It only matters to the person that wants to learn a language, regardless of why they want to. Arvo
Okay, my mistake. It really did seem like you were saying it in a way that the only useful thing for it is to put on your resume for a job (Which knowing another language is only relevant to few jobs anyway). Diablo
After reading these comments it seems more like I've started to like the language and I've started to go deeper in it not for just learning it for sake of Anime. Watching Anime is just an added bonus. Plus I can that to my Biodata like some person mentioned above.
browntiger
I planned on doing that as well. But it would take to long and the commitment is too great to learn from the beginning how to speak Japanese.

Chronos 117
The hardest part with self-teaching is sticking with it. The bad thing about self studying is that it is too easy to just stop, you need to make up a schedule (only if it is an hour or two per week). You will be more likely to stick with it if you see it on paper and see that it is time to study. Remember, use it or lose it.An easy way to stick with it is to "trick" yourself into getting in the habit of studying it. For instance I ONLY study Japanese at 8:00 P.M. everyday because of that everyday at 8:00 P.M. I know it's time for Japanese and because of that I'm learning extremely fast. As for the original question in a way I started learning for the sake of anime but I also want to go to Japan. P.S. I learned this technique from a cool Japanese study site called Tofugu, it's an awesome site worth checking out if your learning Japanese http://www.tofugu.com/

Alegend1994
I was going to learn properly at the start of September last year but college work has become a lot more work and has taken more of my time, using Japanese123 to get the basics at the moment then learn properly after June and all of my gap year.I first wanted to learn Japanese because of Japanese only anime, but then I found out about the prices of the anime there, although I then found out that I could also use it to visit and maybe live in Japan, plus it is a good extra to go on your CV (resume). J-Lord
I have recently started taking online lessons for learning Japanese. I suggest you listen to Japanese songs and watch subbed anime a lot. If you want to have a look through the website, here it is: http://123japanese.comIt's a great website, as it runs you through the basics of learning Japanese. One of my tips is to learn a few of the most basic words in Japanese.Friend: TomodachiThanks: KanshaRed: AkakuYurete: DreamsOnce you have learnt a few words, try putting them into sentences and repeat the sentences in your head wherever you may go. That's what I did, and I am learning rather quickly I guess. As for your question, I do not take much interest in subbed anime, but anime is the reason why I wanted to learn Japanese Nice tip yuri!! I have browsed a few web site and tried to start learning japanese by myself. Though im not very motivated to do stuff without others doing it, or without a great goal at the end. Though I would really love to learn japanese and like most others here, visit their country some time.

nano1360
I also think about it, but even without taking any Japanese classes I can understand some phrases and words only by watching anime! cool ne?
