Final Fantasy 13-2 Question/Discussion

I hope there isn't a big difference in graphic quality between PS3 and XBOX this time. Biggest difference was obviously the videos but even the quality when running on the field was less on XBOX. I ended up buying the PS3 version and going through it again after I finished the XBOX one just to experience the better graphics. :beat_brick:

There will always be a difference between the two. DVD cannot hope to have the visuals of a Blu-ray.

Just got it, Its pretty good so far.. their using the same enemy programs and animations as the last one. Not much of a big change in gameplay mechanics, except for-(Spoiler) The new Feral Link and Monsters you get to use as a third member of your party. oh, and the new soundtracks are more "full" it seems that way to me anyways. Better, a lot better. and it seems this time only two characters are to be played and developed. I'm not going to write anymore at the risk of revealing to much about the game.

Serah and Noel main just like 13's lot. 3rd is your choice. There many many many choices, but some of the best ones are the ones from DLC (but that's pretty useless as most of the DLC allies are the strongest enemies in the game, or close to it. They don't join you till you beat them, and by the time you can beat them you're done with the game).

Anyway, the famous ones are: Sahz, Lightning (2 versions. One you can get at the start of the game), Snow, Nabaat (that see-through top woman from 13), Amodar (Lightning's superior officer), Pupu (from ff8), Omega Weapon, Gilgamesh, Ultros, Typhon.

Also, to twist it up, Serah and Noel have the usual 6 roles, and the rest each have only 1. You can pick up to 3 of them to have in your paradigms.

Some off-topic replies:

Well i finished FF13 (with quite a bit of retries against the end boss). all in all that game was short, but still enjoyable. if they make FF13-2 worse than FF13, im going to be royally pissed off. But, no matter the ratings, i will still play it. im just a sucker for FF. Lets just hope they improve on FF13

Much much better than 13 ^_^ It restored my faith in in the series

Meh... After farming CP for like.. 30hrs, I was able to pwn the final boss. But yea, I was reading in my GameInformer that there is a few new characters, and you can use Serah this time around. But it should be an interesting game all in all.

On my 2nd playthrough I knew about CP farming. Just farmed for 3 hours before going to chapter 12. By the time I got to the final boss I had all max chrystariums (well, 5 roles maxed and the last halfway on the top level. Close enough) Still took 3 retries though :P

you only play as sara and noel, and use the monsters as your 3rd character, its not as good as the first one but still good ending is a little bit of a confusion says to be continued ;)

I must admit the ending got me very confused as well. Maybe it'll be continued in FFXIII versus (when it finally get's out).

Also, this game is kinda easy, too easy even, with my pretty average team, I manage to beat some of the strongest bosses :/, and not with any good tactics either (tac and sab aren't for me).

Last boss, pain in the ass. Took me forever to beat.

You mean a dlc enemy or the game's final boss? I was overpowered by the time I reached the final boss so just sweeped him aside (I thought the game would follow 13, where the final boss is a tough cookie even when maxed out) Still can't beat the DLC guys though. Near impossible to beat them without infusions.

Defining Final Fantasy is difficult. Easiest is prolly just to say they're the best games in the world.

From wikipedia

Final Fantasy (ファイナルファンタジー Fainaru Fantajī?) is a media franchise created by Hironobu Sakaguchi, and is developed and owned by Square Enix (formerly Square). The franchise centers on a series of fantasy and science fantasy role-playing video games (RPGs), but includes motion pictures, anime, printed media, and other merchandise. The series began in 1987 with the eponymous video game conceived by Sakaguchi as his last-ditch effort in the game industry; the title was a success and spawned sequels. The video game series has since branched into other genres such as tactical role-playing, action role-playing, massively multiplayer online role-playing, racing, third-person shooter, fighting and rhythm.

Although most Final Fantasy installments are supposedly independent stories with different settings and main characters, they feature identical elements that define the franchise. Recurring elements include plot themes, character names, and game mechanics. Plots center on a group of heroes battling a great evil while exploring the characters' internal struggles and relationships. Character names are frequently derived from the history, languages, and mythologies of cultures worldwide.

I can't believe you liked Tactics: Advanced over Tactics. My heart is breaking.

Depending on which FF you play, you can do different things. My experience with the series goes Mystic Quest, 1-7, 12, Tactics, Tactics: Advanced, and Tactics A2. 11 was an MMO and so is 14.

Mystic Quest is probably not up your alley unless you like really easy and linear RPGs (I don't mind them and the game has a lot of nostalgia value for me, so I personally love playing it).

FF1 is also pretty simple and is the game 8-Bit Theatre is based on--if you've ever read it.

FF2J (with Firion) wasn't originally released in the US, so they released FF4J (the one with Cecil) as FF2. I personally didn't like FF2J's levelling system--your skills went up and down based on how often you used them, which was different from what I normally expect from the series so I guess I'm just a grump, haha. It does look like an interesting game from what I've seen my brother play, but I'm not particularly attached to it.

FF3J (I don't even know if the characters have names??) was also not initially released in the US, so they released FF6J (with Terra, Sabin, &c) as FF3. I've played a little of FF3J on the DS and attempted to play the Japanese ROM (which obviously failed because I don't speak Japanese).

FF4J (Cecil) was pretty good and I've played it through a few times. This one was for the SNES and it's personally one of my favourites, if only for the characters.

FF5 (Bartz/Butz) introduced the job system, so if that was an aspect you really liked about Tactics and planning out which jobs your characters would have as they levelled up, you might like this. It's a far more simple system, but the characters get sweet costumes with their jobs.

FF6 is by far my favourite of the numbered FF games. It has a distinct steampunk flavour to it and I thought it was pretty well-written. You get a huge variety of characters, all of whom are given the spotlight for more than a few moments, not to mention there's a few little secrets here and there that I found pretty interesting. I played a lot of this game (as FF3) as a kid and remember watching my mother continuously fight dinosaurs in one of the forests in order to do something based on a rumour that was floating around. The days before GameFAQs, haha.

FF7 is probably one you've heard a lot about--it's the one with Cloud, Sephiroth, &c. I liked this one a lot, but I never got into any of the spinoff stuff so I have no comment on those.

[Huge jump. I tried to play FF8 and thought it was boring. FF9 was ugly, but people say it was a good throwback to the older FF games. FF10 didn't interest me. FF10-2 interested me even less (somehow). I don't like MMOs, so I gave FF11 a pass. Same for FF14. I want to play FF13, but just haven't gotten around to it yet.]

FF12 is a game a lot of people like to diss and say it practically plays itself because of the gambit combat system, but the way I play the game and the way my brother plays the game, there's no way either of us could just let the game run itself. I use the gambit system fully but adjust it to certain situations to take advantage of enemy weaknesses and strengths. My brother doesn't enable gambits for the character he's controlling and manually chooses actions. Either way, you still have to move the stick to move your characters around, haha. Anyway, I thought it was a good game--the romance storyline is severely underplayed, which I personally appreciated. The various areas you travel through the world are quite lovely and I found them memorable. FF12 takes place in Ivalice, the same as in FFT and FFT:A, and you'll see some of the same components you saw in Tactics in FF12, mostly in terms of the summons which encompasses all of the Zodiac beasts.
