SoulskeSohma
I'm kind of new to anime, but I'd have to say Desert Punk. I love that show.
JCBeezy
It may have to do with nostalgia, but I'd say Argento Soma. I just loved the characters, and Ryu Soma is still one of my favorite characters in any media ever.
failedhornet
Aoi Bungaku. I say its underrated because ive never seen anyone mention it and it is a truly amazing show.
tevert3
I'll add a vote for Last Exile but I'll also toss out Turn-A-Gundam as being underrated in the Gundam series subsection. Plus I feel non-mecha fans probably overlook it as it's, well, Gundam whereas hardcore Gundam fans may dismiss it on the basis of it's atypical mobile suits. But what you have is a show with endearing characters and fantastic music that transcends it's mecha roots.
breekachu
Welcome to the N.H.KThe characters, the plot, the artwork... It's definitely one of my all time favorites :'3Honestly, people that haven't seen it should give it a try, i'm almost certain you won't regret it!Just don't expect loads of action, fanservice, "It's over 9000" powers. instead it's something much more closer to home... but not in the boring way, it doesn't take itself too seriously but it has something most can relate to and understand.(Trying my best not to review it here) xDIf you fancy a change of pace, then this is where you should look (:To sum it up,Welcome to the NHK is a dramatic-comedy. Most of the comedy happens early, especially with the weird glimpses into Satou's mind, but the series moves onto hardcore drama mode in the middle and second half of the series. Those looking for something to laugh at should stick to the early episodes and bug out when the internet suicide arc comes into play, as the series as a whole takes a much more serious tone from that point on. Those that want a good drama with some laughs will enjoy this one, especially if they are interested in Japan's societal issues.Have fun!n__n

Keisen
I'm not sure but Elemental Gelade and Busou Renkin feel kind of under rated. I don't see those anime get talked about a lot or maybe I'm just in the wrong places. To me the story lines were pretty good and I liked them because I'm a person who's really into action/drama/romance anime and movies.
Pa010
Gintama. Definitely.I wonder why there is only 1 movie of it, And its a retelling of a previous arc.
Pl@yer
Utawarerumono is defiantly under-rated. It was just by chance I even saw the show but I'm glad I did. The ending could have been better but over all it was a great show. I've only heard a few mentions of it since I've seen it.
Koby
I'd have to probably say Hunter x Hunter these days. Seriously it's a shounen but it doesn't follow the cliches and isn't simply about strongest = win, or main character = hax. Hunter x Hunter advances through deep character interaction and development, gives all the characters back story and meaning and truly makes you care for them and their reasons for becoming a hunter. As far as the battles, they don't always take on fights about brute strength and often it will be resolved with brains and not the brawn. There is always a way to take down a stronger opponent if you only take a moment to figure out their weaknesses and plan in advance. This is where Hunter x Hunter shines. Despite how unique it is, despite how great the story is, it's often overlooked and never really did as well as it could have. Viz Media licensed the original series but refused to license the OVA's citing that sales were terrible. They did say they would pick up the remake possibly, but ONLY if sales of the original picked up. I'm not too sure how popular the show was in Japan, but it must have did half way decent for them to pick the show up again. Very few people I know have even heard of the show much less watched it. So yeah it's a truly underrated gem.
