† RazorDan
Following the hacking of the playstation 3, Sony has announced that anybody found using a hacked ps3, will be banned from PSN for life. The PlayStation 3’s security has been fatally breached, thus enabling those with a mind for such things to play illicit (i.e pirated) games on the console.Sony is currently considering a number of options to combat the pirates. We’ve already heard about the possibility of unique serial codes on game boxes – players will need to input a code in order to play the game in question. That might seem like a throwback to the very early days of home computer gaming, but it could work. Well, at least until the hackers find a way around such measures. In the meantime Sony has a simpler, altogether more draconian plan in place – a lifetime PlayStation Network ban for anyone caught using a hacked PS3. That would mean no downloadable games, no extra content for existing games and no online multiplayer fun. Full article here
lordofelemental
wow, i did not expect sony will take action from these aside that it increased the number of consoles sold because of the jailbreak issue.anyways, im also glad that this happened since i was quite curious about this jailbreak program that can play pirated / downloadable blu-rays for the ps3. in the least, i decided to still go buying the originals. i have some double thoughts before this that i really want to use it.. but in a sense, i did not go for it. one of the reasons is my little brother, he told me that one of his classmates in his college class insisted him on doing the jailbreak flash drive thing on the ps3. in a sense that my little brother was interested, he did really ask me for the permission to make it in my ps3. of course, i said no.for sony, it's really possible since that they are the one's hosting or have the servers for the PSN network which in sense, they can easily tracked each person who have the right code in their boxes (i could say a serial code). i just wonder on why nintendo and microsoft did not do anything about this when they're own consoles was also hacked / breached. apr118
^Hmmm... So the Hacked PS3 User will ONLY get banned if he/she plays online correct? If you ask me, I'll just make sure to play offline but then again, that will take away some fun experience online. Now that PS3 is becoming hackable, I think I'll buy one as soon as the pirated blu rays pops up because seriously, I think the PS3 games are really expensive. If they can make it less expensive then I say that will be a good reason to buy the real thing. No offense to anyone whatsoever... Looks like the only solution to play hacked PS3 is to stay out of the "online zone" lol...
† Anras Rune
Hmm...interesting...the article doesnt say anything about the other idea sony was thinking about doing...lolSony has another little idea up there sleeves, burned hard drives. They were thinkin about takin a leaf out of microsoft's book and use aggresive drive wipes to stop people with pirated ps3s from using their ps3 again, plus banning their ips from gettin on PSN.i suppose thats better than the alternative, making PSN a subscription membership like live, which they are apparently debating... ragnawind
LAst I knew before they started banning people, which they already have begun doing, they were thinking of making games require a serial number like on PC games in order to play games on the PS3 and only one serial number would be accepted per game with no transference. This would also stop the sale of pre-owned, though, and playing on multiple consoles.

ragnawind
if it will be like that, then it is also possible to make a crack or a key-generator out of it? it's just like the other PC games and software applications around. It wouldn't be so easy, since it is a console. Also, with the PS3, you would have to run it from the PS3 itself, which isn't really possible to my knowledge. Even then, there are only specific keys that would be allowed and online would be disabled if you used a keygen/cracl on the PS3, since your key would have to be verified by Sony and if it is already in use or not legit, they could sue you for it. It has also been confirmed that anything you run on the PS3 is sent in a log to Sony every time the PS3 is turned on, even if you don't connect to PSN automatically. This could easily allow Sony to find your IP Address and account, blocking both.
wex101
I've never actually heard much news of hacking ps3s. Aside from playing pirated games, are there many reasons for doing so like the PSP? I love my hacked PSP
ragnawind
I've never actually heard much news of hacking ps3s. Aside from playing pirated games, are there many reasons for doing so like the PSP? I love my hacked PSPI personally don't think hacking the PS3 really has a use except for pirating, since everything else can already be done on other consoles and the handhelds. Some people are doing it for getting another OS installed, like the old Other OS option, but that isn't really necessary since you can just put Linux on your computer, which is what the Other OS option was basically for. lordofelemental
http://tech2.in.com/india/news/gaming-consoles/playstation-3-hackers-can-now-unban-themselves/194242/0it seems that after 1 day of sony's action on the hackers and modders.. someone already breached the psn security. seems like this will ba a battle of programmers and hackers. the link says that people who are already banned in the psn can unban themselves, and say what, these people can target some other psn players and ban them with their own merits. lokisminion
The smart thing to do is to get an older 1st-2nd gen console and play offline with it. I have a new slim console and I won't do a thing to mod it, but its easy to mod an older one to play games off an ext hard drive, and they load faster too. The xbox games can be stealthed, but there is always a chance to get caught even with stealth files loaded. If there was no risk, it wouldn't be any fun to do.
