IssphitiKOzS
Brotherhood was better in every way. That said, maybe only because it was new, but I still liked the first series better.
hkrishnan2007
Brotherhood has a better build up towards the climax. The final 18 episodes of brotherhood are really better than the original.

PartySauce
Brotherhood all the way. I was left unsatisfied with the original series. I really liked that it was remade to be more loyal to the manga. Some of the OP's from brotherhood were better than the original's. The ED's were alright. waffleiron123
This is a tough one as FMA/FMA:B are two/one of my favorite anime series.Whilst FMA:B has improved animation, greater detail and a larger overall story, I still liked the original a tiny bit more. This is probably since I watched FMA first and don't think you can really recreate the same feeling from seeing the two alchemist brothers for the first time.Although FMA:B had a grander tale, to me Father wasn't a very interesting character or plot device. I really liked how in the 'original' it was really just about Ed and Alphose working together to find some way to restore their bodies back and that's it. Thus making the story more personal, especially since the homocili are created in failed human transmutations. So we end up seeing Ed having to confront his 'mother' for his sins and also finding out 'Envy' is Eds half, once dead brother who has a much better reason to loathe him than simply being envies. To quote a line from the Ironman movie, "Just because you have an idea, doesn't mean its yours". I really like how Bones took what the writer of FMA had and take it in a different direction entirely. Plus FMA has a movie which is an extra bonus but almost bittersweet.
chaosf1
this is a tough one both have good and strong points, while i didnt like how FMA end there somethings there where in it that are not in FMA.B and i miss them. that being said i would still go FMA.B
Bartleby
I agree with most people that say FMA and FMA:B both have their strong and weak points. In the beginning I had problems with Brotherhood simply because I thought it was a little too silly for it's own good and didn't strike that balance that the original had. However when it started to get into the material that wasn't in the 2003 anime I started to enjoy it more. They cut back on the humor and I think carved out a good niche for themselves.I try and say I enjoy both equally but I do like some aspects of one better than the other. I like the writing and plot structure of the 2003 anime better than Brotherhood but I enjoy the humor, animation and action better in Brotherhood. It all depends on what you like. BigTortoise
The original will always be my favorite, but that's just based on what I have seen of brotherhood so far so my opinion isn't a very strong one.
Fifilicious
I prefer the original. Like many have already said, Brotherhoods lack the emotion the original does. At the same time, I do like some of the new characters. The animation of Brotherhood throws me off a little. Sometimes I like it and sometimes I don't. For example I'm crazy about how Scar looks. nosushi4you
I'm not really sure, to be honest. I think FMA:B took longer to get into, but now that I'm pretty far into it I love it.
blue.o7
I like FMA as its own thing. It came up with some interesting ideas to how things were meant to have happened etc and created an interesting story. But overall I like Brotherhood better. It took a little longer to get into but once it gets there the characters really shine and you get a lot of depth.

graywind
I like Brotherhood better because it sticks to the manga but it was interesting to see new things introduced in the original series.I agree. The materials created to expand the first FMA series was interesting. Brotherhood had some fun moments and the action was superb. However, I prefer the first FMA over Brotherhood generally because even though the episodes may be generally slower to get from point A to point B, the pace gave way for character buildup, which I value in any entertainment. (Without trying to spoil anything) Even though I "disliked" the ending of the first FMA movie as opposed to the way the series itself ended, I felt they way the characters have to roll with the punches to "live" affected me more than Brotherhood's ending. (Personally, by a long shot)
Kyliegraphy
This question is a little difficult because there is really not one pure answer. Neither is better in all categories of judgment. What do I mean?Fullmetal Alchemist has emotion, it draws you in, makes you feel for the characters almost like what is going on is real.Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood has a better story. The story is much more diverse and interesting and the animation is a lot higher quality. However it seems to lack the emotion of the original and to me falls a little flat at time. The beginning was horribly rushed to where I cannot really recommend watching the beginning. They assumed everyone had watched the original so they rushed everything. Even afterwards the pacing is too fast. The fast pacing may be why it lacks the emotion. It doesn't give the time needed to draw you in.Overall, I've only seen 39 episodes of Brotherhood and honestly I could only give it an 8.5/10 while the original on the other hand still holds true at a 10/10 for me. The emotion is where it counts the most. Without that it just falls flat.FMA original anime was too boring, it was as if it was aimed at 12 year olds, and the reason brotherhood was rushed (which i agree with you there) is because they had to fit alot of chapters in really fast (i dislike how they completely skipped the storyline of yoki and only touched on it 40 episodes later, but turning it into a joke) so i prefer brotherhood but that may be because i read the manga first before anything else
