D.Gray-man Hallow Anime's Blu-rays & DVDs Cancelled

The official website of D.Gray-man Hallow, the second television anime of Katsura Hoshino's D.Gray-man manga, revealed on Wednesday that the Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases for the anime have been cancelled due to "various circumstances." All pre-orders for those volumes have also been cancelled.

 

The Blu-ray Disc and DVD releases were originally scheduled to start with the first volume in September, and continue with one volume every month until February for a total of six volumes. The releases were indefinitely delayed in early September to raise the quality of the releases.

 

The 13-episode series premiered in Japan last July. Funimation streamed the series as it aired in Japan, and it describes the show:

From the studio behind D.Gray-man comes the highly anticipated continuation to the popular series. Allen Walker is an exorcist working for the Black Order whose mission is to protect mankind from the evil Millennium Earl and his deadly Akuma. Allen and his comrades must recover lost Innocence while defending against the Earl's terrifying army. But if they fail, Innocence will be lost forever.

 

Funimation also streamed an English dub for the anime.

 

Yoshiharu Ashino (Tweeny Witches, Cross Ange, First Squad) directed the anime at TMS Entertainment, with scripts by Michiko Yokote (Shirobako, Prison School, Dagashi Kashi), Tatsuto Higuchi (My-Otome, Bakumatsu Gijinden Roman, Schwarzes Marken), and Kenichi Yamashita (Koutetsu Sangokushi, Ishida and Asakura, Actually, I Am…). Yousuke Kabashima (The Girl Who Leapt Through Space, Lord Marksman and Vanadis) adapted the character designs for animation, and also served as chief animation director. Yasuhiro Moriki (Ninja Robots, Crest of the Stars, Bakuon!!) is credited for design. Kaoru Wada returned from the previous D.Gray-man anime to compose the music.

 

The original 103-episode D.Gray-man anime series aired in 2006-2008. Funimation released the first 51 episodes on DVD, and the first 13 episodes on Blu-ray Disc.

Too bad. I would have liked to see more of the show made, but this kind of thing makes it seem unlikely. Hopefully Funimation will still continue with their plan to release the rest of the first series and also release Hallow, but who know about Hallow now, since there won't be a source. Funimation hasn't been streaming Hallow for awhile now, either, in dub or sub.

 

EDIT: Never mind, Hallow is still available streaming, but you have to disable the Uncut content under version to see it. They list it as Episodes 104-116, also.
