Neolux
When I play an MMORPG, I almost, for sure, choose a female character. They are treated much better on these games by guys who are desperate for girls and I appreciate the extra help, and maybe trolling a little bit! Plus, i'd rather stare at a girl's ass for hours on ends than a guy's.When it comes to single player games, it depends on the art style, and the different choices, stats, and class choices.I don't think there is anything wrong with playing a character of the opposite gender, and I personally prefer it sometimes. Dark_Angel13
Not weird at all. Whats weird is that it seems to bother some people for some odd reason.Have to agree it is quite strange, I think the ppl who say it aren't comfortable enough with themselves to play another gender
redxlll
duh coz im a dude in reality isnt the idea of gaming to escape reality what a better way to do that then to play as a different sex and/or race unless a online mmo where its best to stay your own gender to avoid any online awkwardness hashtag the oh crap your a dude moment (for reference wath SAO ep 1 lol )
cacas
I don't think is strange, AT ALL. I always prefer to play a female character when given the chance.Chicks look cooler in armor.I also get asked in WoW: "Why do you play as a girl if you're a guy" and my answer is "cuz i fucking want to".

xZulu
except for bayonetta i find i can't identify with a female character and end up not enjoying the game as much
†Emotional Outlet
Why are you unable to identify with a female character? Is it the way they write female characters? Is it just a visual thing? What is it about Bayonetta that you found you could connect with her about that you can't do with other female characters? And are you talking about MMOs and the like where the character you play is mostly an empty slate for you to apply a personality in your mind, or are you talking about games where the character you play as is given a personality and life in the story? Pinkie Pie
i go for anesthetics when i play a game. if i can make a pretty guy, i'll use him, and give him good looking armor too. if i can make a pretty girl, i'll do the same. i do get mistaken for a guy in games sometimes, but i do all the time on forums as well so it doesn't really matter too much lmao
jrb24
i dont mind people playing the opposite gender. i always pick the male character because i want the character to resemble me. i think the reason why some people dont like players picking opposite genders is because they feel like they're being lied to in some sort of way. you're not being true to who you are. this only applies to online games obviously, where people interact with other players. Some games have specific classes tied to certain sexes, so if all the mages are female and a guy wants to be a mage, he very well may decide to play as a female just so he can play a mage. Same thing the other way around--if all the archers are male and a female wants to play an archer, then she's going to play as a male.  What about games where the sex of the character affects their stats? If the female characters, at their base, are naturally inclined towards, say, dexterity and speed, whereas the males, at their base, are naturally inclined towards constitution and strength, and a male wants to play a speedy little assassin, why not play as a female and take advantage of their natural speed bonus?  And if they just want to play as a female or male because it is aesthetically pleasing, then what does it matter if it doesn't reflect their own sex? How exactly does it affect you? That's what I don't understand--how the choices of others, how they decide to enjoy a game, is damaging to you personally.  I can understand if they are explicitly lying to you, if they've led you on to believe they were one thing but were really another, but you'd have to be certain there was indeed malicious intent behind their actions and not just your own assumptions leading you astray.
Breathless
When I play a game, I almost always roll a Female character. Why? Because they're cute as hell.Another thing I do is, I role play. If I'm playing a female character I'm not going to around asking people "Do you even lift? Fight me in real life! newb!" I adopt a persona. I've role played a snob before - where I wouldn't even talk to someone else in the game. Granted, it made the game hard, but it was fun! And isn't that why people play games in the first place, to have fun?I really don't see the problem with them playing a different gender, much less personality.I don't see the problem, even if it were a real life situation? (Biological Male - living as female, and the reverse)
†Emotional Outlet
Well, do you lift??? FIGHT ME, NOOB. /flexes violently  I guess what kind of gets to me is this can easily translate to transphobia or cissexism, especially when people start saying things like, "I feel lied to, I feel betrayed" just because a person is playing the "wrong" sex in a video game. Like vidguy says, there's no real reason to read deeply into a person's gaming choice! Whether a person legit does not feel comfortable playing as their biological text or they just want to look at a nice butt, whose business is it but theirs? Screaming Spoon
I almost always play as female characters. They're usually flashier when it comes to style and skills/magic. Idk, everyone I know plays/has played the opposite gender at one point.

Eh I also like playing female characters, so obviously I don't mind other ppl playing the wrong gender. I usually play female characters, because If I'm gonna see the same character whenever I play, it might as well be a chick
hellzheaven
Most of my characters in any game I play are female (if the option is available) mostly because they just look better than the male characters you have to choose from. That and I would rather be looking at a female character for hours at a time than a male character.
