Who here plans to be playing Guild Wars 2?

Considering the fact it goes live on the 28th next week.

Might be interesting to group up with some of the other forum locals if they will also be playing.

Personally got over 3000 hours into the original Guild Wars. So here's to at least another thousand or so to the sequel!

I already pre-purchased it. Only 11 more hours until the 3 day head start. I want to play it so much T.T... On their twitter they said they might start it a few hours earlier. It would be cool to play with someone from the forums. Maybe we could make a Kametsu guild if it was ok with Koby.

I've also pre-purchased it, but honestly I only played the first open-beta weekend. Hopefully I can be more commited now that the game is (almost) officially out. hopefully my computer can handle it, I had awfully low fps last time.

They've optimized the game quite a bit since the first beta. I played the third beta and it played wonderfully. Here's a good article to read about it if you're interested.

I'm very interested and thankyou for pulling that up. ^^

I did play the (I think) third beta aswell but that was on my friend's computer so I chalked the difference to his super... monster... breed of a computer...

It's good to hear that they have been on it since the get-go. Oh how I do love ArenaNet. :beauty:

I know for a fact Minkseru is getting. IT comes out the day before his birthday. Sadly he won't be able to play till my computer gets replaced. His can't handle even the first one. That and we also have a daughter about to be born...so neither of us will be able to play our new games much.

  • 3 weeks later...

how does this game differ from traditional mmo's since there is no monthly fee?

You pay the purchase price of the game and after that, you don't have to pay ever again (apart from possible future expansions and a few things in the Cash Shop, which by the way are not needed at all to play).

There are a lot of differences from traditional MMos. We'll use World of Warcraft as the base line and I'll lay out a few important differences.

1) Auto-grouping. If you want, you can start an actual party, but its not needed. If you're in the area and there's a boss fight, you just have to start fighting and everyone there gets equal XP and gold (well, equal as long as you put in the same amount of effort. You get less if you joined only at the very end)

2) Its incredibly easy to revive fallen players. Not only can you revive fallen NPCs, but players too. Just walk up to them, press F, and they'll regen HP until they're back on their feet. This encourages team-work and tactics, especially when fighting tough opponents. In WoW, if you fell, you died, end of story. You'd have to go back to the nearest cemetery. In GW2, you can be revived and get back in the fight.

3) There's no set healing class. Every class has a healing spell. This destroys the concept of tank/rogue/healer in so many other MMOs.

4) Dynamic events. The world's constantly changing. There is no way to actually "fail" a mission. In the Level 1-15 Norn area, Wayfarer Hills, there's a mission I love where a tribe of savages are attacking a scholar's house. If he falls, his house is overrun by monsters and that spawns a mission to clear them out. However, if you protected him, he then goes off to investigate. Should he succeed, a new mission will be spawned where you have to fight against a boss and legions of ice elementals. That is just one chain mission

5) PvP is also a lot different. You have Player versus Player, where you have a small team and you have capture points you must hold on to. The best part though is World vs World, where entire servers go to war on a gigantic map. You have to consider tactics, like who escorts the supply caravans and who attacks enemy strongholds with siege weaponry. Yes, siege weaponry.

Anyone here playing Guild Wars, give me your character names and I'll add you to the Kametsu Guild.

Got it awhile ago and the games great, but it does feel a little repetitive after awhile, it's not a big deal though since there's no monthly subscription.

At the moment I have a level 40 warrior and the combats quite fun and unique since you have to actively avoid damage, also almost all melee attacks do area damage so positioning is massively important. And, if you get tired of the combat there's an amazing amount of exploration to do.

One thing I've heard though is there isn't much to do at end game, so if you get the game might as well take your time leveling up, taking in the sights, and enjoying the game ;) .

I want to play but I don't want to buy it digitally, because I don't want to download 30 gb (I don't know the actual size). So I went to my local gamestore, but they were out of stock since the company (ArenaNet) had to stop even the selling of digital copies, because too many people were playing and their server were always full. Now that they have upgraded their servers, I was told by the store that they would eventually get new copies.

@RikuoAmero when I get the game i'll join. That may be next week or the other, because... you know... Borderlands 2 is out! and I can't play 2 games at the same time... or can I?
