Prometheus1991
I'm happy enough using anything I can get my hands on to download what I want. Sadly regardless of what I use my download speeds are limited to roughly 600kbps up here so nothing really has the advantage over the other. JohnFlower
seedboxes are way to risky.. proxy server are saferPlease elaborate. Both seedboxes and proxies have the same amount of risk involved. You're using a credit card (I assume you would) that is linked to your name and address, so if the authorities wanted to find you, they will. That said, you are more likely to be targeted if you have a seedbox and are sharing somewhat questionable material. Just being on this forum has atleast some risk.As I said, if the authorities want to find you, they will, even if you use anonymous payments (how do you do that? Cash?). †Emotional Outlet
Dead drops and unmarked bills, haha.As far as torrents, I don't frequently use them nor do I mind using them. Jamendo had torrents for a while so I used those to greedily collect my free music, but other than that I don't bother because I really don't download that much. Jaxxy
I've used torrents for a while, I prefer using them over DDL, due to the fact that you don't need a premium account to download at high speeds like you do with a bunch of filehosts. kellypibb
I used to torrent, but I also got letters from my ISP...so can't do them anymore. Plus as others have mentioned, most of the time they're really slow. I loved DDL sites, but after MU (+ the others) got taken down, I've pretty much gone back to IRC. dignified
Torrent: NayDDL: YayIRC: YayDDLs are nice if you find a good source and have a premium account. And IRC is great if you find a source. But torrents are just to easy for the feds to track and send you bills and lawsuits so I won't use them anymore. But I really liked them when that wasn't such a big problem.
Xanders
Based on the info of where I lived friends told me they torrent all the time and hasn't been called to stop downloading by their ISP.Besides, I always do find what I want to download from some good DDL sources that I know if not, I'll just patiently find a new source. But, when I get desperate I'll just torrent for what I need only.
mnvbmn
I have using torrents for years now and never been asked by my ISP to stop. I mostly use torrents for anime and anime OSTs. The whole ISP thing may depend on what you are downloading as well as the ISP itself.
EbbedAway
I prefer fileshare as it's a dedicated host and I don't have to worry about a host. Sadly I find most Fileshare sites being monitered as much as torrent servers for copyright infringement. I recommend coding files with anonymous zip names and passwording them via the forum here to prevent anonymous usage and infringement.I use torrents often as they're easier to find then individual fileshare versions and tend to be more complete in downloading whole seasons versus individual episodes. byakuya98
Sure, most people use it for illegal file-sharing, but torrents still cater to a very important part of the society: Open-source users and freelancers. They need torrents to effectively share their data without having to pay for insane hosting and bandwidth.
zaczac
I personally don't use torrents unless I can't find what im looking for elsewhere, direct download \ usenet.+ torrents tend to be tracked where I live.. got an email from our service provider about copyright
madgnad
I've used torrents for a long time now and never had a problem. I've never used IRC. Anyone care to explain how that works? It intrigues me. I always thought they were just for chat rooms.
†Emotional Outlet
madgnad, if you're interested in using IRC, there's a series of tutorials on the forum here.
Jªvª
Goin to be honest now that it dosn't really matter what you utilize. Pretty easy for your ISP to track the source and method as of now, but only will issue the letter if confirmed of infringement of copyright or has probable evidence.I say yay for torrents, but def utilize common sense if you do use it for "borrowing" instances. Cain
I'm sorta neutral on this matter, can't say anything remarkable about torrents nor bad, since beggars can't be choosers that's the basic principle under which we are downloading free stuff (doesn't apply to those who are premium users) so imo use whatever just be smart about it
byakuya98
I pick them simply because they're more stable and reliable than regular downloads
