Shima_XIX
I'd received the 1995 Ghost in the Shell film on VHS as a gift, but never got around to actually watching the film it until a few years ago (on my laptop, of course; I can't even seem to find where I've kept the VHS any more). LTJG RIO
Well I did have Ghost in the Shell on VHS as a kid but, my mom saw me watching it one day right at the part where she strips down and tries to tear apart that giant spider mech and she immediately tossed that out. I can watch all the violence I want but, a 10 year old watching nudity just didn't jive with her very well. Oh well, can't blame her. Other than that I own box set's for Gundam Wing, 08th MS team, and Outlaw Star which all came out in the 90's. And a DVD copy of Armitage the Third from hmmmm, I forget the release date on that but, I'm pretty sure it's the 90's also.
coolsnoops
8-man (1963-64) is probably the oldest anime that I can easily find on my computer. I have 12 files, no DVDs. I might have an older series or movie, especially some of the VHS English dubbed stuff, but I don't keep track of the dates cartoons are released... DarkTyranitar
The first Gundam series, but I got bored of it and stopped watching it. Dragon Ball would have to be the oldest show that I have that I enjoy.

blue1moon
The oldest anime I've seen is Candy Candy (1976) which was on TV when I was a kid (and which was horrid, by the way). The oldest anime on my HDD is the original Mobile Suit Gundam (1979), but I haven't watched it yet. The oldest anime I own on dvd is Escaflowne (1996). blackdal
Would mysterious cities of gold count as anime? Its a joint french/japense release, but i'm not sure how strict your ruling for 'anime' would be? If that doesn't count, then it would have to be trigun for me

Moebius Strip
Thanks to AniDB, this is relatively easy. I'll list everything up to the first actual anime I own. Everything else will be stuff downloaded to my PC. Whether you count some of it or not is up to you. Katsudou Shashin (~1907)Male (1962)Tale of a Street Corner (1962) <-- If you enjoy war themed stuff, this might interest you.Memory (1964)Mermaid (1964)Drop / Shizuku (1965)Pictures at an Exhibition (1966) <-- Some good satire.Genesis (1968)A 1001 Nights / Sen`ya Ichiya Monogatari (1969)Cleopatra: Queen of Sex (1970)Belladonna of Sadness (1973)The Rose of Versailles (1979-1980) <-- Own on DVD
