The Pillows are an awesome band and I've even listened to more albums beyond the soundtrack albums. In terms of the soundtrack itself, it perfectly captures the 'age of discovery' and in a strange way reminded me of my own transformation from boy to man. I also really like the soundtracks for both FMA and Brotherhood. Really well done. Ouran High School Host Club also has a really neat classical sounding soundtrack. Bluenoser Posted February 9, 2012 Report Share Posted February 9, 2012 For myself I tend to enjoy cuts from animes more than entire soundtracks (with the odd exceptions of course), but many of the ones that have given me my most enjoyable music to listen to over and over again in my mp3 player would have to be Gundam Seed (this is one where I love the entire soundtrack, both the vocal songs AND the OSTs, I have never been able to pin down why they works so especially well for me, they just do, especially the song meteor...it still sends shivers up my spine from time to time), Eureka 7, Bubblegum Crisis 2040 (this is another long time fav for its music), Gunbuster (love the opening song Active Heart especially, it stayed in my head for well over a decade, indeed close to two in fact from when I had first heard it to when I was finally able to track down a copy of it), Mahoromatic's closing song the Mahoro Mambo (it is just so catchy), Code Geass, more the first than second seasons but still overall another example of an OST that worked well for me, Kiddy Grade (I think though that it at least as much because I really liked that series and the music got the boost from it as much as for the music on it's own merits alone), several of the Inuyasha opening and closing themes, some of the music from Revolutionary Girl Utena (especially the music used for her going into the fight scenes), Angel Beats was a wonderful soundtrack, indeed that has some of the best music in the newer animes I've seen overall a very good overall collection indeed IMHO, FLCL as others have mentioned already for much the same reasons I suspect, Ah My Goddess, especially the song Open Your Mind (It just warms my heart so, I really love this piece), much of the music from the Tenchi OVAs and GXP series, less so the Universe and Tokyo series, they just didn't work for me as much (not that they were bad or anything, just not as resonant for me is all), and to finish this off with the soundtrack of RahXephon.This is by no means an exhaustive list of all the anime music I really like, just a good representation of the top end of my favourites. Most of what I've listed I have in my music player and at least one of the songs from each anime mentioned is in my "hot" list. Several of the OSTS mentioned also are on it, but then so are many Symphonies from Mozart, Beethoven, Handel, Schubert, along with 80s rock (since that was my teen/young adult decade music scene).
