Just wondering whether my fellow anime watchers empathize more with anime characters or characters played by real people. I myself tend to fell more empathy towards an anime character, i'm not sure why, perhaps it feels somehow more pure.

Anyways, how about you guys?

Also if there are some characters you empathize with alot feel free to list them whether they be from anime or sitcoms and things :dhh:

catharsis psycho mombo jumbo aside. All writers, directors and others who create this kind of entertainment want there audiences to sympathize or relate to there characters in some way. This helps draw in the audience. Heck whats character development for if no one cares enough about the character to keep watching. The same goes with anime to. Whether or not you like anime characters or real actors doesn't make much difference. There both fictional, and they both have there share of great or bad actors and writers who either ruin or create great characters.

I think what it comes down to is the culture these characters are based. I remember when I started getting into anime, I didn't like things like the ninja turtles any more or space ghost coast to coast. They were redundant and in my opinion at the time boring. How ever when I watched anime I noticed that even villains had there ethics and they seemed a lot more in depth. In Amarica no one cared enough to do much while in Japan they were putting a lot more effort into it and it showed.

In my opinion, now that i'm a lot more mature than I used to be I can see both cultures personal form of entertainment differently than I use to. I like anime because Japanese mangaka and others take there audiences more seriously making for a better effort. On the other hand America is usually great for shows that you can kick back and enjoy with out effort. So for me I'll just sit on it and enjoy what ever i'm enjoying at the time. Currently i'm on the X-files. ^_^

well i normally feel empathy towards the antagonist mostly but i feel to make a perfect character they need a good design a good plot and a good voice but i feel they have to match each other to me the more they match the more i like them for example my favorite is the millennium earl from d.gray-man and i only have 6 or so like that but i have other and that's the way i find my favorites and that's how i fell "empathy" towards them kukukukuku

I kinda felt empathy with Naruto. Always treated like shit, and put down like he's some insignificant... thing. Yet even still he continues to work his ass off to be better than the others and stays true to his own goals, and to himself.

I get too attached to some anime characters which is why I lean towards that side. I mean you are showed to love these characters over a span of 10-20+ episodes only to see them brutally die or blow up. Kid's parents die, then everyone around them dies, it's crazy. Also I could watch something like Murder-Set-Pieces(which is extremely visceral) and probably just cringe, or maybe not, at some of the scenes. But if I'm watching a brutal, dark, gory anime, I can't eat something like a sandwich and watch it at the same time.
