Singularity

A singularity believe it or not has more power than you can posibly imagine.

the reason why I bring this up is: We are closer to ultimate destruction than we think.

erm wtf?

First of all, you havent stated which type of singularity, so for I know you could be talking about black holes...lol

Also, the idea of singularity actually has nothing to do with the world's destruction, not unless you've been watching those conspiracy videos on youtube, or readin ray's idea of the singularity. He, btw, has been confronted for his lack of understanding on how human interfaces would work and is just one side of the multi faced dice that is this subject.

Personally I hope I live to see the technological singularity as the times after would be exciting with development beyond human capabilities. I refer to bioenchanment singularities and the idea of the Human Computer, which research is being done on now.

All in all, the Tech Singularity is still (unfortunatly) a long way off, with the earliest "realistic" estimates being in the second half of the century, the earliest being around 2055 if all goes well...

PS: I think this should've been in the mako reactor...>.>

ok, I meant the singularity of matter, one atom?

I still don't understand what you're talking about. Do you have a link to something that would explain this better? The only singularity, involving matter, that I know of is a black hole and it's alot more then one atom.

As far as Ray Kurzweil goes, I think he's a pill popping crackpot.

What does that have to do with the end of the world? Explain. Also, I wanna see the article where that was announced because I'm sure I didn't see it in recent news (I read scientific and tech news :P).

(don't read that one as aggressive, I'm genuinely curious now, but still too lazy to look it up on my own).

dude... that isnt the definition of a singularity, nor has it got any relation. As laugh said a black hole is much more than a single atom, it's the enitre collapsed core of a super giant.

as to the manipluation of atoms, we've been able to do that for a while now. i remember back in '08 they managed to create an atomic calculator. didnt do much, but twas interesting. but i havent ever heard about us being able to hold an atom still, not without ionising it at least. So like dae i'd still like to see the source. But this is any danger to the world anyhoo, its like all that shit with the LHC...*sighs*

PS: *high fives dae* So i'm not the only one on here that reads science journals! ^.^

Are we talking about tech-singularity? By no means a world ender, no matter how many interfaces are built we're all human; if it stops being an interface and becomes part of the physical body, then there might be trouble, but we're still far far off from that.

Any other kind of singularity (black holes?), atoms and whatnot I don't have any knowledge to say or know otherwise, but if the world ends blame scientists; they're the ones building hadron colliders while you sleep in bed daydreaming about girls or... motorcycles

This topic is kinda getting out of hand, but you do have my insight of what im tryin to say.

Well, since we have determined sub-atomic particles exist and all, I doubt that our world will end and everything will blow up or something if we split an atom into smaller peices. If it wasnt possible and it would destroy our world, then it would be impossible to split. So if we successfully split it, then it means that it was designed and able to do so.

But, it kinda makes you think though, doesnt it? It certainly made me think.

Take a look at our solar system, then compare it to a atom. now you see the neutrons surrounding it right? Both seem to be the same.
