Neon Genesis Evagelion Discussion

I loved the show but the ending was absolutely awful. Shinji Ikari's frequent doubt and angst was also just too much. So far I've seen the first 2 movies of the rebuild and enjoyed them. I'm just hoping that the 4th movie will give the series a good ending or at least an ending in which it is clearly understood what has happened.

Rei and Asuka may be two of my most favorite characters ever, wall scrolls and figures of them are all over my place, which is strange as the show in which they live just kind of makes me "meh".

It's too "Gainax" for it's own good.

I've yet to see the second ending, or the second ep of the rebuild, but it is still one of my favorite animes. Perhaps I just really love strange psych/philosophy musing, but I thought the original ending was great. Sure, the sinking budget didn't help the action towards the end, but I much prefer philosophical musings to action sequences.

At first I really hated the series, partly because I kept hearing people call it the best anime ever(and when I watched it I just didn't see that) and partly because I really hate Shinji. But the more I watched it the more I began to enjoy it, and when I watched the series again I started to like it even more(I still hate Shinji, but I started to understand Asuka a bit more after seeing the whole series). I still don't think it's the best anime ever, though it is in my top five. I think one reason I really like it is that they didn't dumb it down at all, it really makes you think to figure out what it going on and I like that.

The original NGE is with no doubt my number 1 anime... even without EOE...

There is so much to say about the show it has all the best elements in my opinion a wonderful and creative plot, the use of technology and psychology together with a fantastic and philosophical touch...

And the character its so easy to connect and empathize with them and their interactions... (my favorite is Asuka)

there are lots of renewals to the original show but none are massive (except rebuild)...

EOE - A great movie and a great ending to the show I felt it was a bit weird while watching it (you know the giant rei/ lilith, the egg of lilith absorbing the souls, the sea of LCL and more...) however there were some parts I cant get out of my head... (=

Death and Rebirth - Not even worth mentioning as it is just a re-edit...

Rebuild - Now this is interesting... here they made some massive changes to the show (they even changed Asuka's name...) and even with all of this its still a masterpiece the animation is clearly great, the story still keeps you guessing whats going to happen next, the characteristics changed alot from original show... however i feel that 4 movies are not enough to grasp the intensity and complexity of the story in full...

There is only one thing that bothers me about the story and animation - the use of religious symbols and myths... for example Adam the first human, lilith the Jewish mythology female demon (לילית), massive amount crosses and alot of others... but i guess thats just a part ill have to accept in the masterpiece (=

Please feel free to share your thoughts with what I wrote (=

I love the Evangelion series, especially Rebuild, which I have watched many times over already. However I was very displeased with the original ending and I absolutely hate it when animes use shitty composition, live action shots with the same crappy filters thrown on top that you see on middle and high school girl, facebook photo albums.. It's retarded to have an entire anime "animated" and then suddenly the last few episodes are nothing but these crappy live action shots.

I've only been in to anime for the last 9 months and was hooked instantly after my first series (done about 20 now). I've been looking into what everyone considers the best and I wasn't disappointed after finishing the original series. I still have to watch the end of eva.

I am also not a fan of the last two episodes. I think the majority of people were already well aware of the conflict Shinji was having internally and we didn't need the two episodes. I would recommend people to skip them. I also didn't like the 30-60 second fillers they had in a couple of places with just a still shot.

Top notch religious links, good action, fantastic story line, REAL characters. Overall an 8.5/10

Watch the Rebuild movies, if you haven't already. Two of the best anime movies ever.

Ordered the Platinum series collection. Supposed to be here tomorrow so I cam enjoy them while confined to my dorm. Check check.

good series, the original ending and the two subsequent movie endings are too inexplicable/incomprehensible for me (and many many others by the sound of it)to have ever made sense of

i love the rebuild movies, cant wait to see how the last two turn out, and if we will finally get an ending that makes some degree of sense
