Final Fantasy VI released on the Wii's Virtual Console!

Nintendo may not have any interest in bringing Wii owners brilliant new role-playing games, but at least they've got us covered for the old ones: This week's Virtual Console update includes one of the most beloved RPGs ever, Final Fantasy III. Of course, you're a savvy and knowledgeable gamer who knows this is actually Final Fantasy VI, but the point remains. For $8, fans can download a game they've been demanding for years.

Granted, this probably won't assuage the outrage fans have been expressing over Nintendo of America's seeming abandonment of the hardcore gamer (despite the company's avowed determination to reconnect with them earlier this month at E3), but you can at least admire this attempt at sleight-of-hand.

Dammit, why aren't they giving us FF 1-6 on the PSN? I would really like to play V and VI, but I've been holding off from buying the PS versions on Amazon in case they either remake them like they've done with 1-4, or at least put them on the PSN like they did with 7-9.

Darn Virtual Console. I don't have a Wii...:(
