I really hope Nintendo fixes their online multiplayer with this new console. The friend code thing gets annoying after awhile.

Similarly to what I said about the achievement system, I think that if they were going to change the whole friend code system they would have changed it for the 3DS. Something you'll learn about Nintendo is they are very resistant to change. Take for example the new eShop on 3DS, Nintendo are sticking - it seems - to their outrageous pricing. £7.20 for Plants Vs. Zombies on their store on £1.29 on iTunes...which one to choose I wonder.

Didn't they mention more adult games would be on this console?

I saw an article on slashdot that said that the average gamer age is 37.

They certainly have far more support from the more serious/hardcore whatever you call it end of third party support with Ninja Gaiden 3 and Fifa franchise etc being announced on it.

Also, the average age of gamers surveys are often quite misleading. They often include a gamer as anyone who has played FarmVille on FaceBook so I wouldn't put too much stock in those sorts of things. Certainly, though, the average age isn't 12 or 13 like matches on COD would indicate.

Nintendo has always been a company pushing the boundaries. and here they are doing it again with the wii u. It might nog be the perfect system, but if it works out well, then u can be sure that microsoft and sony will be on there heels with an upgrade of there idea. i just dont see them bringing out hardcore games on the wii. I will gladly swallow my words if they prove me wrong. we live in interesting gaming times.... anything is possible.

Well…Nintendo entered a world dominated by PS3 and the 360 and they are taking them head on with a new concept!

A controller that can act as stand alone media/gaming device and double as a monitor for co-op playing or continuing your gaming while the other half is watching their favorite series.

Too little information is available about the controller/tablet/pad’s independent device capabilities but it is already clear that it has a SD card slot which could lead to games or media (series, music , anime etc.) and it being an e-reader is practically a given. Whether you would want to use it as a stand-alone device…well not sure about that.

The CPU details have been released.

Their high density discs, confirmed data of 25gig, will certainly allow enough storage space. It is doubtful whether it will support BD, but it certainly will support DVD putting it into the multimedia market.

If it does do BD, this will have trumped one of the major drawbacks of the 360 that even with a larger HD still refuses, like a stubborn child, to get BD.

The fact that it is fully backwards compatible with all wii and gamecube games as well as all wii remotes, boards etc. will just extend the market footprint for it.

With it not having a built in HDD removes a significant cost factor from it as it is fully compatible with HDD’s SD cards and other USB storage devices. Rumours have it around the $299 range. I doubt it, Nintendo has to enter the market below the PS3 and 360 console prices currently sitting at that range.

The controller/tablet/pad features the usual things including gyro’s, accelerometers, sensorstrip, microphone and camera’s.

Hopefully the camera’s will allow AR gaming to become a reality as with most Smartphones AR Defender comes to mind. Ninty has already shown their skill with AR through their AR Pokedex.

It is still early days regarding this and I wont be surprised if there are some changes made to the concept. I would guess release around the June/July 2012 holidays.

I will confess and say that I am intrigued with the Wii U.

If it becomes a fully fledged multimedia system (capable to play all current video and music formats) with a HD gaming device with great 3rd party lineup and support and allow a uninterrupted gaming…well were is the problem?

3rd party interest:

Batman: Arkham City, an Assassin's Creed game, Dirt, Ghost Recon Online, Tekken, Metro Last Light, Aliens Colonial Marines, Ninja Gaiden 3: Razor's Edge, and Darksiders II all got a mention as coming to the Wii U.

I would highly doubt some of these claims. I don't doubt it having an SD Slot but I would have though anything like having it as an eReader would be an extra commodity for Nintendo. I would not be surprised if the released it as a piece of software, after the console rather than with them. It's a nice thought though.

I believe Sony has something to do with BD, or were definitely in the early production stages that's for sure, so I would doubt them including proprieties of their competitors.

Awesome, didn't know it was backwards compatible with gamecube games. One piece of information I hadn't heard yet, thanks for the info.

Also, while I'm here, I'd like to draw your attention to a sister thread I've made. It's along the same veins as this one but is about the PSP Vita instead. I think it'll be interesting to see which has a better response from Kametsu users. I have edited my first post to include a link. Alternatively, use this one :)

I would be farcical for Microsoft to announce a sequel now, like you say buoyed by the success of Kinect (10m sales last I heard) it would be stupid, especially as they're getting console sales from it as well.

Don't misunderstand though, it is obvious that Sony and Microsoft are making new console. Microsoft's was kind of revealed when they listed jobs for "hardware engineers for next generation console" and Sony recently confirmed they were working on it whilst explaining where money was being spent during an investor call.

On the other hand, these are certainly a long way away from being released. Remember, both Sony and Microsoft said they were going to stick with this generation for 10 years (Nintendo always said the Wii would be around for the average time of 5/6 years) which would of course be 2016. It wouldn't surprise me though if these plans were sped up a bit and we have first showing at E3 2013/14 though now.

I know i will buying the New Wii U when it comes out and the new psp (PSvista)? I like the features of the new Wii u.

One thing I've been wandering about it though is, Does the Controller need to be by the Console to play the games and do the other stuff. Or can the controller be used anywhere example-Road trips and play some stuff without the console.

Just to clarify, the controller has to be wirelessly linked to the console in order to work as all the processing is done on the console, much to the same effect as current Wiimotes and even PS3 and 360 pads work. Presumably the range for this would be pretty similar to that off current systems, usually about 20-25m so road-trips wouldn't really be viable.

Of course, for those purposes you could buy the PS Vista - I keep calling it PSP Vista but that's wrong :P - which you seem equally interested in. Of course, the 3DS would also be an option for road-trips but I would imagine the 3D effect would be pretty useless rendering the game pretty redundant, gimmick wise at least.

I'll probably wait a year or so after its release. I'll see if it's worth getting by then. My current opinion now is I don't care about it and most likely won't get it. The Wii was a huge let down for me. There was only about 3 games I enjoyed for the Wii. I suspect the case will be the same *sigh* again for their next "system".

I don't really think you can lump both consoles in the same area. The Wii U has far more support for more mainstream/hardcore/proper whatever games. Admittedly so did the Wii when it was first announced. I think things will be different this time though. Jeez, even surprising myself with my optimism here XD

Yes, but which of these games are exclusive and will I really want them? (Note: I'm very picky about the games I play.) Why would I purchase a new console I don't want, just for a few games, when they will probably be available for other systems I already own? So far as a system, I'm not impressed with Wii U and have a nasty after taste of Wii. I'm not sure I really even trust nintendo anymore.

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Online, a third-person military shooter, uses the controller's screen as a map, with targets popping up as allies identify them. Players can tap a specific area of the map to create an icon that will appear in the game world showing a rallying point. The screen can also be used to show images captured by a drone that hovers over the battlefield. Plus, players can scroll through weapons and upgrades by swiping and tapping the controller's screen, never needing to pause and enter a menu.

I will admit that most of my Wii games are made by Nintendo. The only ones I have are the ones that received critical acclaim and Nintendo ones. I don't think we'll end up with as much shovelware this time though because I would imagine it would be more expensive to make a game for it with the new hardware.

I'm still not convinced by that to be honest. Unless you played using the standard Wiimotes and has the U-Pad (NOTE: U-Pad is not an official term, just something I came up with to stop having to write 'massive controller' lol) somewhere close to the screen so you can see it better.

In my mind, the only way that would work would be if you played it like that tech demo where you had to put the U-Pad in front of you as a shield to block arrows. Then you could see it by glancing at it but still see the screen. Even after typing that, it sounds like a bad idea to me. I'm sorry, I just can't see a first person shooter working until I've seen one working if you get what I mean :confuse:

hehehe, yeah i get what you mean. :haha:

As far as i understand, and from what i have read, some games will be played with only the "U-pad" (nice by the way), but the original wii remotes will also be used for games. the U-pad is an addition to the gameplay. if i do find anymore conclusive info, ill come post it.

I have also heard and read these things, in fact most of the tech demos use that sort of setup. I think it will be predominately based on how much multiples cost. I would imagine you'd get one bundled with the console but if additional ones cost upwards of £30 (price of Wiimotes - unlikely U-Pads will cost the same) then game developers would be a bit hesitant to make their games use multiple U-Pads for fear of cutting out the majority of their target audience.

I suppose we'll just have to wait and see.

It seams waiting is our best and only option. lets hope for the best. this could possibly mean alot to the future of gaming if it is done right.

you should see the prices of wiimotes in SA. but hopefully prices will drop with the release of wii u.

I doubt the prices of the Wiimotes will drop considering they are still being used in the Wii U. Maybe they will drop them a little to accommodate for the new peripherals that are bound to come with the Wii U. Unfortunately, though, we live in a world run by corporate greed and lets face it, Nintendo have clearly seen evidence in the last generation with the Wii that (the majority of) people are willing to pay those prices.
