Descent

Chapter One:

Isaac quickly chased after her, pushing his legs as fast as they could possibly go. No matter how fast he ran they were always faster, etching further and further away until finally they were out of sight. Isaac came to a sudden halt, falling to his knees tears began to stream out of his eyes. Many questions ran through his head. Why couldn’t it have been him? Why were they doing this? And most importantly why her? He slammed his hands against the ground; anger was beginning to take over. Though that anger was quickly replaced with a realization, he could either let her go and simply head home, or he could go after them.

“I got to save her,” Isaac whispered as he slowly returned to his feet. At this time his legs were feeling the brunt of the running, he could barely move them. Yet that did nothing to deter him from his goal, with all the might he had left Isaac stalked forward.

“WAIT,” a voice yelled out. This too caused Isaac to stop, he was not sure why. As he turned around his gaze was met by that of a boy, whom looked to be the same age as him possibly younger.

“What?” Isaac bluntly asked. He was beginning to feel anxious.

The boy scanned Isaac over, not quite sure if he should trust him, granted he came to him. That was more of a rush. Though he quickly dismissed that thought, the boy knew himself, and he knew that he was prone to second guessing the choices that he made.

“The names James,” James outstretched his hand.

Isaac did what James did to him just a few moments ago, he glanced the boy over. He couldn’t tell if James was serious or if he was just a happy person in general.

“What?” Isaac once again bluntly asked refusing to shake hands.

“Not much of a talker are ya,” James stated, he knew Isaac was in a hurry and he truthfully did not want to keep him for too long, in fact he wanted to help over everything else. “I want to help.”

Isaac was awestruck; he had wasted valuable time listening to this guy. Time that could have been better spent chasing down the kidnappers.

“Oh you do?” Isaac clenched his hands into a fist; it took all he had not to lash out at James then and there.

“I do, I saw what happened and I happen to have information about that group,” James spoke. He could feel the anxiousness Isaac had, as well as the anger he was beginning to feel. James glared at Isaac, he to now felt anxious, he now wondered if talking to Isaac was indeed the best choice of actions.

“Really?” Isaac spoke, a glimmer of hope now evident in within his eyes.

“Yes, though I would like it if we didn’t have this conversation in the middle of the road,” James gestured to a small diner that was just a few steps ahead of them. He knew Isaac wanted to know all he knew right then and there, but it wasn’t the right place.
