DrumRoll
ok heres my problem. I stream videos from my pc to my 360 so everything I watch has to be in or encoded into avi/wmv or mp4(not all mp4's work however)So recently I downloaded several episodes of Sekirei: pure engagement (subbed) in mkv.Now the touble is I rarely watch subbed so have little experience encoding with them. I use the encodeder 'alltoavi' and 'SUPER' both of witch normally work very well. However alltoavi seems to have a dicky fit because the files are H.265 or something like that, so I get a message saying 'mencoder has stopped working' and I can't seem to get subtitles to work on Super, I manage to encode it but the subs are always removed. theres no actual sub option on the Super interface. So long story short. I want a seperate program that makes the subs a permament feature of the video, so that you are unable to turn them off. Then I can encode that video with the subs 'burned' onto it. If you get what I mean.any help would be massively appreciated.
Nero D. Ace
Subtitles have an on/off feature only for MKV files.Your best bet would be to use MKVMerge to remove subtitles from MKV files and then convert them to AVI.
DrumRoll
no i want to keep the subs. The problem is that they disappear when I encode to avi.edit: just trying the program 'handbrake' that someone mentioned in another post, might work. Nero D. Ace
hmmm, i've never had a problem like that before.try using AVC (Any Video Converter). it's what i use and always manages to do the trick.
Koby
Use automen to encode the file to .avi without the subs, then use virtualdubmod with directvobsub plugin to encode the subtitles into the video and keep the original subtitle styling.Or if you want to save hassle, just download the avi versions the subtitle groups release to begin with. =O
†L4ugh
If you are wanting avi then handbrake won't work. It only outputs the mp4/m4v and mkv. I have read on the site that older versions encoded to avi but you would probably be better off trying Koby's suggestion. I've only used the current and last versions of handbrake, and neither encoded to avi. There is however a noticeable difference in quality, so I wouldn't give up quality for convenience. FullMetalRaven
Well I have a Similar Problem I try to Burn in Op's & Ed's into my Dubbed Ep's and the Subs are .ass Format avc-free does Burn your Subs in to the Video But it only Does .srt type Subtitles. I have yet to Find a Program to Burn .ass Subtitles into AVI's Video's.
†L4ugh
If you want to keep using avc-free you could try using Aegisub to export the subs to srt format.
azdave
a program called ALLtoAVI will convert your mkv to avi with subtitles hardcoded..but if you have a 64 bit system you have to open the program as administrator..if you have a lot of bandwidth you could just stream your files to your xbox with ps3 media server..it can play most files including those with subtitles..its what i use to stream to my xbox360 and my ps3.. FullMetalRaven
AVC is a great Encoder or Converter but it is Lame program IMO Because it never Keeps a Decent Size for the .srt Subtitles and you can't Change the Font in them at least with me they have. I am not really Sure if it Works With .Vobsubs. .srt are great for plan subtitle Text.
