Fact of the Day - ASTROLOGICAL SIGNS

Did you know... that while Western astrology is essentially a product of Greco-Roman culture, some of its more basic concepts originated in Babylon?  Isolated references to celestial "signs" in Sumerian sources are insufficient to speak of a Sumerian zodiac.[6]Specifically, the division of the ecliptic in twelve equal sectors is a Babylonian conceptual construction.  By the 4th century BC, Babylonian astronomy and its system of celestial omens had an influence on the culture of ancient Greece, as did the astrology of ancient Egypt by late 2nd century BC. This resulted, unlike the Mesopotamian tradition, in a strong focus on the birth chart of the individual and in the creation of Horoscopic astrology, employing the use of the Ascendant (the rising degree of the ecliptic, at the time of birth), and of the twelve houses.  Association of the astrological signs with Empedocles' four classical elements was another important development in the characterization of the twelve signs.  The body of astrological knowledge by the 2nd century AD is described in Ptolemy's Tetrabiblos, a work that was responsible for astrology's successful spread across Europe and the Middle East, and remained a reference for almost seventeen centuries as later traditions made few substantial changes to its core teachings.

My Astrological Sign. This never happened to me. :hguit5:

Virgo, you are super hardworking, analytical, and practical. And you know it. So your fun fact may not come as much of a surprise. But, as Stellhorn tells me, you and your fellow Virgos have always been the highest achieves in school. Since you know how to study (and always study hard) you're almost always the top of your class.

Did you know... that an analysis of data from the FBI found that Cancers are the most frequently arrested of all the zodiac signs, and their crimes are often more serious too. Also, analysis of the Forbes list of billionaires found that more of the people on the list were Aries than any other sign. The sign is known for its determination. Here is hoping I become a billionaire 😂 🤣

Fact of the Day - CASTLES

Did you know... that the first castles were wooden?  When the Normans (who came from Normandy, France) came to England almost a thousand years ago, they built wooden motte-and-bailey-styled castles, which were essentially castles built on a mount, whereby low-level residents and enemies at naturally lower altitudes had to hike up sharp inclines to reach the castle itself. While this was a clever way of putting the earth to good use, the walls which enveloped the castle, as well as the castle itself, were made of wood, which could easily be burnt down.

Did you know... that the Windsor Castle ( located in Berkshire , England ) is the oldest still-occupied European Castle ? At about 900 years old , Windsor is still occupied by Queen Elizabeth II ( one of the many facilities she calls home ) . Originally , it was a wooden motte-and-bailey-type castle built by William I as the first in a series of nine castles . Later it was renovated with stones and was given a few additions by way of some outer walls and a round tower by a generous Henry II .

Did you know... that there are around 1500 Castles in England. There is a Castle in Colorado known as Bishop Castle and it was built by one man and it is fully defensible in the case of nuclear Armageddon. What tragic thought that last sentence was... 😂

This is perhaps one of the most uncomfortable features of the castle, as if the castle weren’t uncomfortable enough; there were no toilets, but rather little constructions called “garderobes,” a hole through which users would aim their waste products, which would ultimate go through shoots which wound up in the surrounding moats. Adding to the wretchedness, these “bathrooms” were often cold and breezy, hardly conducive to progress. Another gross detail: the “garderobe” was called such as residents would keep their clothing inside, as the odor would repel insects (and any human with a sense of smell, most likely).

Did you know... that Hindi is not the National Language of India?  There are more than 20 official languages and Hindi is one of them but it is not India's National language.  Official languages are the ones which a country uses to communicate on an official level.  In fact, there are some cities in India like Chennai, where people are happy not to communicate in Hindi.

Fact of the Day - KANGAROOS

Did you know.... that female kangaroos can determine the sex of their offspring.? They can even delay gestation when environmental factors are likely to diminish the chance of young surviving.  Like all marsupials, kangaroos are born extremely early; the equivalent of the seventh week of pregnancy for humans. They travel from the birth canal as little more than an embryo by blindly propelling through the mother’s fur to the safety of the pouch, where they will spend several months developing before finally leaving to explore the world.

Did you know... that there are four species of kangaroo : the Red , Antilopine , Eastern Grey and Western Grey Kangaroo ? Kangaroos are the only large animal to use hopping as their primary method of locomotion . Hopping is a fast and energy efficient means of travelling which allows them to cover large distances in habitats where there is little food and water available .

Fact of the Day - CELL PHONES

Did you know... that many of the early cell phones were considered to be “car phones?”   However, in 1983, the Motorola DynaTAC 8000x arrived on the market. Though huge by today’s standards, it was considered the first truly mobile phone because it was small enough to carry.  The phone, though incredibly expensive, became a pop culture symbol, showing up on everyone from Gordon Gekko in the movie Wall Street, to high school heartbreaker, Zack Morris, in Saved by the Bell.

Did you know... that In 1983, the first mobile phones went on sale in the U.S. at almost $4,000 each. Also, in Japan, 90% of mobile phones are waterproof because youngsters use them even in the shower. That 90 is an attach rate to the bad habit I imagine...
