Koby
Starz just announced that the fourth season of its original series Black Sails will be its last. The 10-episode Season 4 of the Treasure Island prequel returns in 2017 with its pirates at war in the West Indies. Black Sails was the first Starz original series to go beyond three seasons, a high-water mark held by Spartacus: Blood and Sand (which also did a prequel miniseries) and Da Vinci’s Demons. The premium cabler on Tuesday renewed its drama Power for Season 4 and 5, which will give it the Starz record. “It’s a rare privilege in television to be given the kind of creative freedom we’ve enjoyed on this show over the last four years,” said series co-creator and executive producer Jonathan E. Steinberg. “While it was a difficult decision for us to make this season our last, we simply couldn’t imagine anything beyond it that would make for a better ending to the story nor a more natural handoff to Treasure Island. We’d like to thank Chris, Carmi and everyone at Starz for all their faith and support, and to our astounding cast and crew for joining us on this ride.” Said Starz Managing Director Carmi Zlotnik: “Jon Steinberg and Robert Levine, along with their crew and the phenomenal cast, have delivered a spectacular take on the most legendary pirate story in literature, and this final season will bring us to the shores of Treasure Island as was always intended. Black Sails has been a tremendous success; from the loyal fan following and strong viewership numbers to awards recognition and the skill of our world-class production in Cape Town, we could not be more proud of this very special series.” Black Sails follows the most feared pirate of the day, Captain Flint (Toby Stephens), and takes place 20 years prior to Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic novel Treasure Island. The series is created by Steinberg and Robert Levine, who executive produce with Michael Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form, as well as Chris Symes, Brad Caleb Kane and Dan Shotz. Black Sails is distributed in nearly 200 countries and territories worldwide. The first three seasons of Black Sails averaged 3.6 million multiplatform viewers per episode, according to Nielsen and Rentrak. The series has been nominated for multiple Emmy Awards and won in 2014 for Outstanding Special and Visual Effects in a Supporting Role, and Outstanding Sound Editing. The show was also nominated for Outstanding Drama Series at the 2016 GLAAD Awards.
Fathis Crowe
Another great show! I'm sad this will be the last season.. There have never really been any good Pirate shows on television. Hopefully this won't be the last.
