I change the word stupid to mean awesome. Same difference. I change nigger to mean billionaire. Same difference. You can't just change the meaning of a word to suit your desire. Otaku = lazy ass pathetic bum who lives off their parents, in their basement and idolizes anime/manga characters, marries their pillow who looks like their favorite moe, wants to fuck their imouto sis because they're a siscon, etc.. Otaku is a derogatory term and uneducated anime fans thinking they can take Japanese words and change their meaning to suit their needs makes the rest of us look bad. Gay has always meant fag, but some used it for 'happy'. Guess they thought you had to be queer to be happy in life? Even if this was true, it's still Americans changing American English. It's not the same as people using another languages words and changing the meaning simply because of mistranslations or ignorance of the language. For a words definition to change, requires the people of that language to change it. If Japanese people see a Japanese word as an insult. It's an insult. Americans, French, Germans, Canadians, etc.. have no ability to change the meaning of Japanese words. Just like the Japanese have no ability to change the meaning of English or French words. This whole thing about Otaku was started by one idiot who misunderstood / mistranslated and idiots followed because idiots will be idiots and follow the lead idiot. It's the same thing with people who worship anime releases by DeadFish and claim all others are bad, when in reality all DeadFish does is re-encode other groups releases to lower quality hard-subbed mp4s; but idiots will be idiots.
