badman
I'm looking for a way to convert/render styled ASS subs into a format that will work on gaming consoles (PS3/XBOX Compatible Subs). Does this process exist, or is it a fantasy? The programs i normally use are MKV Tool Nix, Handbrake, X Media Recode, and PS3 Muxer.
lemmingllama
If I remember correctly, PS3 and XBOX can only handle hard subs, not soft subs.
badman
Noooooo... Not even in the .m2ts container? It seems like it has more capabilities than .mp4 Edited March 8, 2014 by BadmanEncodes
Moodkiller
Alright, so I have found out that PS3 (any ways, not sure about xbox) DOESNT support .ass subtitles, but .srt subtitles (http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=5831041&postcount=4). So lemmingllama was correct. You can use a programme called Subtitle workshop to convert the .ass to .srt (ref: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/270095-Convert-ass-to-srt-help?p=1778765&viewfull=1#post1778765) and use AVIAddXSubs to merge the .srt with you video file (ref: http://forum.blu-ray.com/showpost.php?p=5831456&postcount=6). However all formatting/styling/coloring will be lost as .srt doesnt support this ( ref: http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/270095-Convert-ass-to-srt-help?p=1778765&viewfull=1#post1778765). Hope that helps you...
badman
For anyone who's interested, Handbrake is able to "burn in" .ass styled subtitles. It looks good, of course a render will never be able to compete with fonts that fit any resolution.
Tsukumo Yuma
If .srt works, there is also a site called subtitle horse, which you can import .ass files and convert them to .srtFor those who don't want to download extra software.
